Brie Larson , actually Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers (born October 1, 1989 in Sacramento , California ) is an American actress , singer , songwriter and filmmaker.

Larson was best known for her role in the television series Tara's Worlds . For her acting performance in the film drama room she has received numerous film prizes, including an Academy Award ("Oscar"), a Golden Globe , a SAG Award and a BAFTA Award . In 2017 she starred in her first big budget movie, the adventure film Kong: Skull Island . Since 2019 she has played the role of Captain Marvel / Carol Danvers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ; started in the movie of the same name, Captain Marvel .

Life

Brie Larson has a younger sister named Mimsy. Brie decided to become an actress when she was seven and was one of the youngest students at the American Conservatory Theater . She moved to Los Angeles in 1998 shortly before her ninth birthday and still lives there today.

Acting

Larson's first engagement was in skits on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno . Shortly thereafter, it was for the American television series mold for the role of Samantha cast , while in US television network Fox announced, but was never aired. In March 2019 the film was still listed as "in development". In March 2019 it was announced that Larson had signed a contract with Apple for a drama series. The series is to be based on the experiences of the CIA undercover agent Amaryllis Fox and her memoir Life Undercover: As an agent at the CIA , Larson is to play the main role as well as act as executive producer .

Filmmaker

Parallel to her acting career, Larson also appears as a director and screenwriter of short films . In 2011, she wrote and directed the four-minute tragicomedy Weighting with Dustin Bowser . That same year, Larson co-wrote and directed The Arm with Jessie Ennis and Sarah Ramos . The screenplay for the seven-minute tragicomedy about teenagers and their relationship to SMS communication was made during a three-hour bus ride from Dallas to Austin . The $ 800 production was turned off within three days with the help of family members and friends. In 2012, The Arm was featured in the Sundance Film Festival competition , where it received an Honorable Mention for its comedic narrative style. Larson made her feature film debut as a director in 2017 with the comedy Unicorn Store , in which she also took on the lead role. She plays a disaffected art student who is fascinated by unicorns. Larson auditioned for the role back in 2012, when the film was to be directed by Miguel Arteta based on an original screenplay by Samantha McIntyre , but lost it to Rebel Wilson . In 2003, Brie Larson started promoting her own songs on her website and was already planning to release an album. Her first song released on the internet was Go , which was later renamed Go, Goodbye and re-recorded for her first album. The song was about "two great people who just don't fit together," and it brought her to a recording deal with Invisible Girl at Casablanca Records , a Universal Records brand , without the label's boss, Tommy Mottola, having met her personally would have.

Both songs were co-written with Michael Binikos and Craig Bartock, who at the time did not believe that Brie could do this himself. Later that year she released another song, Not a Freak, as a self-made music video that was available for purchase online. In the late spring of 2004, Brie had to remove all tracks from her website due to the terms of her label contract and started working on her first album.

In October 2004 she released her first single She Said from her debut album on her website. In addition to She Said , she sang two other songs with Ugly and Loser In Me . A music video for She Said , produced under the direction of Chris Applebaum, was shot at the end of 2004, was available for purchase in the American iTunes Store from December 2004 and was released on CD on January 11, 2005 .

On April 4, 2005, the video was featured on MTV's TRL show and reached number 31 on the American Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. In the summer of 2005, Brie Larson toured the US with Jesse McCartney and performed at a concert for KISS FM . After her single had lost places in the charts, her label released the DVD Finally Out of PE - The DVD on May 24, 2005 with bonus material such as making of the video and all AOL sessions. The album Finally Out of PE was released on October 18, 2005 and sold 3,500 times in the US.

Larson released another single on June 27, 2005 called Life After You .

Brie Larson co-wrote the song Coming Around for the soundtrack for the film Owls - Little Friends in Great Danger and also recorded it.

On March 1, 2006, Larson sang several new songs in the Viper Room in Los Angeles , including Dear Universe , Powershift , Stilts and the Titanic and Superstition , as well as the song Falling Into History, written together with Avril Lavigne , and Closer to Fine , a cover version of the original of the Indigo Girls . In the summer of 2006, Larson published Stilts and the Titanic on their Myspace page.

There are no official statements as to whether the songs listed in the Viper Room will be released. In December 2006, Brie Larson recorded her version of the Beatles classic A Day in the Life and posted the song on MySpace.

With the band Metric she played Black Sheep for the film Scott Pilgrim against the rest of the world and started in 2010 with her own indie record label Big Brass Stacks .
