Black Shepherd was a Belgian thrash metal band from Steenokkerzeel , Flemish Brabant , which was founded in 1984 under the name Beelzebub and split up in 1989.

history

The band was founded in 1984 under the name Beelzebub by Yvan Verhaegen (vocals), Michel Olijf (electric guitar) and Alain Verhaegen (drums). When guitarist Igor Pint joined the band in October of the same year, they also changed their band name to Black Shepherd. In January 1985 bassist Willy Verbelen joined the band. Together they recorded the first demo in April. On August 3rd, the band was the opening band of the Hegge Rock II Festival in Poederlee . As a result, the band achieved further appearances together with bands such as Onslaught , Kreator , Angel Dust and Cyclone .

In February 1986 the second demo United Evil Forces was recorded. It was produced by Alex Raes and Jos Van Geit . On May 3, 1986, the band took part in the United Forces Festival at the Zaal Perfa in Burst , Aalst . She played there with bands like Artillery , Cyclone, X-Creta and Winged Warrior . Shortly afterwards bassist Willy Verbelen left the band to devote himself to his studies. At the following Spettel Metal Festival in Tienen on May 31, 1986, the band had to perform without a bass player. Patrick Minnebier was later found as a replacement. On June 28th, Black Shepherd was the inaugural band at the Whiplash Festival at De Kriekelaar in Schaarbeek , Brussels . On September 6, 1986 the band played at the Metallysee Festival in the Zaal Perfa .

At the beginning of 1987, two more major appearances followed: on January 17th at De Kriekelaar in Schaarbeek and on March 14th in Gemmenich , near the German border. A contract with the label Punk Etc. followed. The first and only album Immortal Aggression was released in 1988.

In 1989 the band recorded another demo, on which singer Verhaegen could also be heard as a bassist. The album was mixed and mastered again by Alex Raes and Jos Van Geit. The band had their last concert in Zaandijk , Netherlands , on October 28, 1989.

style

The lack of structure and the aggressive, rough sound of the pieces are characteristic.
