history

Michael Stützer and Peter Thorslund at the Rockharz 2015 in Ballenstedt .

Artillery was founded by guitarists Jørgen Sandau and Michael Stützer, bassist Morten Stützer, drummer Carsten Nielsen and singer Carsten Lohmann. In the beginning, their music was called Power Metal , before this term became established as a genre designation.

In 1985 Carsten Lohmann left the band and was replaced by Flemming Rönsdorf. In the same year Artillery recorded their third demo Fear of Tomorrow , signed a contract with Neat Records and released their first album Fear of Tomorrow . This has been described as Speed Metal with a neoclassical sense of melody and a faster version of Mercyful Fate with rougher vocals. Her second album Terror Squad was released in 1987.

In 1989 Jørgen Sandau left the band. Bassist Morten Stützer took over his position as guitarist, the new bassist was Peter Thorslund. Their third album By Inheritance was released in 1990 on LP and CD, from then on the band's music showed oriental influences. The band had a contract with Roadrunner Records at the time . In 1991, Artillery initially disbanded.

In 1998, Deadly Relicts was released. This CD contains mostly old demos. In the same year Artillery re-formed and recorded their fourth album BACK , which was released in 1999.

In 2007 the limited 4-CD box Through the Years was released. It contains all 4 albums, all demos and a 32-page booklet with all the lyrics. All songs were also remastered .

On the official website Michael Stützer announced that the band was now active again, planning concerts and rehearsing old songs. A new album is being considered. However, Flemming Rönsdorf is no longer included in the band. The band was looking for a new singer and found their new front man in Søren Adamsen.

In June 2008 the DVD Artillery - One Foot on the Grave, the Other on the Trash was released . This includes a recording of their Metalmania performance in Poland while touring Europe.

The band released their fifth album When Death Comes in 2009. The new singer Søren Nico Adamsen from the power metal band Crystal Eyes brought power metal influences into Artillery's music.

A new studio album was released in 2011 under the title My Blood .

The following album Legions joined in November 2013 through Metal Blade Records .

2016 followed Penalty by Perception and in 2018 with The Face of Fear another studio album.
