Bessie has been looking after her seriously ill and bedridden father Marvin for years. A hospital exam will determine that Bessie has leukemia . Dr. Wally explains that if a suitable bone marrow donor is found, she has a very good chance of survival . Close family members are primarily eligible for a bone marrow transplant . For this reason, after 20 years, Bessie contacts her sister Lee ( Meryl Streep ). Lee travels to her sister's home with her two sons. The old conflicts between the sisters break out again and must be overcome so that the disease can be conquered.
