Dan Hedaya
Daniel G. "Dan" Hedaya (born July 24, 1940 in New York City ) is an American actor .
Life
Hedaya comes from a Sephardic-Jewish family from Syria . He graduated in 1962 to study literature at Tufts University and then worked for several years as a teacher at a high school .
Hedaya played minor roles in the 1970s, mostly in television films and series . In the film drama The Seduction of Joe Tynan , he appeared alongside Alan Alda and Meryl Streep . From 1981 to 1984 he was in several episodes of the Hill Street Police Station television series . In the action film Das Phantom-Kommando he played one of the bigger roles alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger . He was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1994 for his guest role in the series New York Cops - NYPD Blue . In one of the last episodes of the fifth season of Monk in 2006, he played Jack Monk , the protagonist's father, who had disappeared over three decades.
In the comedy The Devils Club , Hedaya played the role of Morton Cushman , Brenda Cushman's unfaithful husband , who played Bette Midler . For this role he won the National Board of Review Award in 1996 as a member of an actor company . He was nominated for the 1997 Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in Marvin's Daughters , in which he starred alongside Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio , Diane Keaton and Robert De Niro . In the comedy Rather Live Unusually , he played the role of the Archangel Gabriel , who sends two angels to bring together Robert Lewis ( Ewan McGregor ) and Celine Naville ( Cameron Diaz ). In the science fiction film Alien - The Rebirth with Sigourney Weaver and Winona Ryder , he played the commander of the space cruiser USM Auriga General Martin Perez . For the role of US President Nixon in the comedy I love Dick , he was nominated for a Golden Satellite Award in 2000.
