Gus and Leonora are divorced, Gus has to pay alimony. There is an opportunity to invest in a bowling alley with four friends, something Gus has been dreaming of for a long time. The financial burden of the alimony makes the investment impossible.

It occurs to Gus that he would no longer have to pay alimony if his ex-wife remarried. Leonora has an affair with Tom, a married professor. She doesn't want to get married again. Nevertheless, Gus speaks to his single acquaintances and asks them if they would look for a wife.

Meanwhile, Rita, Gus's girlfriend, wants to move in with him. He refuses. Rita tells her family that Gus is afraid he won't be able to go along financially with his friends. She cries.

Eventually, Leonora finds a man she could marry attractive. This makes Gus jealous.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that successful romantic comedies not only thrive on the script, but also on the characters and the performances. Mr. Wonderful meet these criteria. The film is not burdened with those clichés that are "generally" to be found in love films. Matt Dillon and Anabella Sciorra would work well together.

The lexicon of international films wrote: “A deliberately old-fashioned romantic comedy with good actors, the main attraction of which is the city of New York, which is portrayed in transfiguring splendor. A lovable and clever film that uses small gestures and polished dialogues to take a stand on great emotions. "

background

The film grossed approximately $ 3.1 million in US cinemas .
