Jessica Harper (born October 10, 1949 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American actress , singer and author .

biography

Jessica Harper made her stage debut as an actress in 1969 at the Biltmore Theater in New York City in the musical Hair . She has appeared in numerous films and is best known for her roles in Phantom in Paradise (1974), Suspiria (1977, leading actress) and Shock Treatment (1981). She was also used by Woody Allen in The Last Night of Boris Grushenko (1975) and Stardust Memories (1980).

In 1989 she married Tom Rothman and started a family. She was rarely seen in films or only in minor supporting roles. Instead, she focused on new careers as a nursery rhyme singer and children's book author. Her first album was released in 1994 with the title A Wonderful Life . Harper also sings on later works with her two daughters Nora and Elizabeth. In 1999 her first children's book ( I Forgot My Shoes ) was published. She wrote other books together with her sister Lindsay Harper duPont.
