Bruce Kirby

Bruce Kirby (* 28. April 1925 in New York City , New York as Bruno Giovanni Quidaciolu ; † 24. January 2021 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Bruce Kirby completed his training as an actor under Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio . He was a well-known television film and series actor in American productions. Between the 1950s and 2000s, Kirby had numerous recurring roles and guest appearances on series such as Car 54, Please Report , Charming Jeannie , Bonanza , Remington Steele , Matlock , Golden Girls , Chicago Hope and The Sopranos. Kirby played policemen particularly often. He had his best-known series role in Germany as the dutiful Sergeant Kramer in six episodes of the crime series Columbo (in three other Columbo episodes he also appeared in other roles). He also had a recurring role as District Attorney Bruce Rogoff in 13 episodes of the LA Law series - Star Lawyers, Tricks, Trials .

As a cinema actor, he mostly appeared in smaller supporting roles in films such as The Evil Trick (1970), Stand by Me - The Secret of a Summer (1986) and LA Crash (2004). In total, Kirby starred in around 30 feature films, over a dozen television films and 90 television series. He last appeared in front of the camera in 2009 for the short film Bottom Feeders . He also worked regularly as a stage actor. In 1965 he was first seen on Broadway in New York in the play Diamond Orchid and was there later, second cast for Dustin Hoffman in a production of Death of a Salesman .

He was the father of the actor Bruno Kirby , who had died before him and who had become known in the 1980s primarily for comedies such as Harry and Sally . His second son John works as an acting teacher. Bruce Kirby died in January 2021 at the age of 95.
