action

The residents of the small town of Greendale are amazed when suddenly “Santa Claus” moves into their neighborhood. The old man with white hair and a beard like this not only has his newly acquired house lavishly decorated for Christmas inside and out, he even has a reindeer on his lawn. The problem with the neighbors: it's June and not December.

It doesn't take long before Frank Mallory of the press takes an interest in the strange man in the red coat. He suspects that "Santa Claus" has decorated himself and the house for advertising purposes, but he explains that he just wants to settle down and therefore open his "Santa Claus dream world". Since he noticed many years ago how he could make children happy as Santa, he has given up his job and has been traveling the country ever since to make people happy. If he advertises, then only for Christmas and love among people. He would like the children not only to see him in December, but to be able to visit him all year round.

They and half the city have been doing that since Frank Mallory regularly reports on the new "Santa Claus". This is not very popular in the neighborhood, because in their opinion the daily crowd and the constant Christmas music disturb the peace of the neighborhood. You complain to prosecutor Elizabeth Gates, who is currently running for governor and is very committed to the interests of the citizens. Gates reacts immediately and decrees that from their point of view "commercial companies are to be set up in an area intended for private households".

This in turn provokes the displeasure of those who want to keep the "Santa Claus dream world". In this situation, Gates doesn't like that her son Tommy spends too much time with Santa, which is no wonder that right now, in the hot phase of the election campaign, she hardly has any time for the boy.

When Santa was taken into police custody for an administrative offense, Elizabeth Gates of all people deposited him on bail. This makes the journalist Mallory very suspicious, and during his research he finds out that the self-proclaimed Santa Gates' father is. But before he reports about it, he wants to talk to her about it. She confesses to him that she hated her childhood and was ashamed of her father because he had his "Christmas stick" back then. When her mother died, she left home and never wanted to see her father again. Now he just showed up unasked because he wanted to be close to his grandson. But her son doesn't know anything about it yet, and she can't find the right moment to tell him.

But she meets up with Frank Mallory more and more often, and they both fall in love. Despite all caution, the public learns of the relationship even without Mallory's report, and with this scandal, Elizabeth Gates' political career seems to be over. When Santa realizes that he has again only caused inconvenience for his daughter, he packs his things and intends to leave town. But when Tommy had a serious accident on his bike and was taken to the hospital, he couldn't help but go to see him. At the boy's bedside, he finally speaks to his daughter, and she realizes that although she didn't want that, she has now become like her father. She also chased a dream and neglected her child. Only in contrast to her would he have made people happy with his dream.

When Tommy wakes up from his coma, he's happy to see his grandpa, who will always be Santa Claus for him too. After Elizabeth Gates has succeeded in convincing the city council to build a public "Santa Claus dream world" in an old train station building, she can persuade her father to stay in town and in his house so that he is close by his grandson can be. All three happily experience the opening of the new “Santa Claus Dream World”, where Santa can continue to live his dream.
