Craig Safan

Craig Safan (born December 17, 1948 in Los Angeles ) is an American composer .

Career

He began his artistic career as an arranger and composer in the theater .

His first work for the film was the setting of the 1975 documentary The California Reich (directed by Keith Critchlow and Walter F. Parkes).

In the 1980s he was drawn to film and composed many of his scores using synthesizers such as the Synclavier . It wrote music for films such as Warning Signs Gene Killer , The Time Trap (1987), Nightmare on Elm Street 4 (1988) and Stand and Deliver during this period . His style often consisted of improvisation as a form of composition.

To date, Safan has composed for more than 70 films and numerous television series. His better-known works as a Hollywood film composer include titles for Starfight (1984), Angel - Street Without End , Fade to Black - The Beautiful Murders of Eric Binford , At War Feet With Major Payne (1995), Remo - Unarmed and Dangerous and the Music to the television series Cheers . He has received eight awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and has been nominated for an Emmy once ; he is also a recipient of a Watson Foundation Fellowship.

Safan, a member of the music committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Academy Awards , divides his time between Los Angeles and New York City composing for musicals and theater productions.
