The Time Trap ( Timestalkers ) is an American science fiction adventure film from 1987 that is about time travel . It is based on the book The Tintype by the author Ray Brown.

History professor Scott McKenzie discovers a modern revolver in an old photograph from 1886. The revolver belongs to Dr. Joseph Cole , a time traveler from 2586 who seeks to change the course of history. His adversary is the scientist Georgia Crawford , also a time traveler. Together with McKenzie , she follows Dr. Cole to the past to prevent an assassination attempt and save the passage of time.

History is on Ray Bradbury's short story of Thunder ( English A Sound of Thunder ajar), the later as butterfly effect treated became known theory. The screenplay was written by Brian Clemens , who was best known for Die Profis , Thriller and Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone . Series director Michael Schultz (including Ally McBeal ) directed the film in which actor Forrest Tucker played his last role.

Some of the outdoor scenes were filmed at the Newhall Ranch near Valencia and the Ennis-Brown House in Los Angeles , California .

The television film, produced by Fries Entertainment for CBS , was first broadcast on March 10, 1987, and later released on VHS videotape. On July 15, 2016, the studio Pidax Film Media Ltd. the film on DVD produced for television in the 4: 3 aspect ratio .

Both the DVD and VHS versions used the first dubbing version by 20th Century Fox ; Lothar Blumhagen lends Dr. Cole his voice.

In a second synchronization from 1990, the character is spoken by Fred Maire . This version, commissioned by ZDF , was intended to avoid confusion with well-known characters from television series of the time, which were also dubbed by Blumhagen: including Lord Brett Sinclair from the television series Die 2 (played by Roger Moore ) and Jonathan Higgins from the television series Magnum (played by John Hillerman ).

The original voice of Klaus Kinski cannot be heard in any of the German versions.
