Richard Maynard

Richard Maynard (born August 30, 1942 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † January 2, 2007 in San Fernando Valley , California ) was an American writer , television producer and educator .

Life

Maynard grew up in Philadelphia and studied history and education at Temple University , which he graduated with a bachelor's and master's degree. He received another master's degree after studying at the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University .

He taught in all types of schools; from high school to graduate school and for ten years at The New School in New York , where he directed the Masters program in Media Studies . He has also given lectures at Antioch College, the University of California, Los Angeles , the University of California, Berkeley and the International School of Film & Television in San Antonio Los Baños, Cuba . In the 1960s, while teaching at Simon Gratz High School, Maynard developed the Philadelphia School District's Black History curriculum.

Maynard advocated modern forms of teaching. In 1977 at Teachers College at Columbia University he said of the use of modern technology in the classroom: “Most teachers cannot operate standard 16 mm projectors. At first this meant that they were reluctant to use the films, since many were too proud to admit their technical ineptitude. ”(“ Most teachers cannot operate 16 millimeter projectors. Maynard served as editor-in-chief for Scholastic Publishing for nine years, contributing to the Los Angeles Times , Las Vegas Weekly and Emmy Magazine. From 1985 to 1997 Maynard worked as a film and television producer and produced several films and television series . The film Normal Life with Ashley Judd and Luke Perry was at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival presented. Gold Coast (1997) with David Caruso and Marg Helgenberger was among his last films .

He and his ex-wife Lorrie Maynard had two sons: Jeffrey Maynard, an actor and teacher, and Kevin Maynard, a television producer and writer.
