occupation

Aircraft carrier USS Georgetown (original title: Supercarrier ) is an American action series that was produced by Fries Entertainment in 1988 for the US broadcaster ABC . It is based on the book of the same name by George C. Wilson .

action

The series takes place on the aircraft carrier USS Georgetown. It has no continuous storyline and, with the exception of the two-part pilot episode, is not based on the previous one. In the pilot episode , Lt. Jack "Sierra" DePalma moved to Georgetown. The crew initially reacts suspiciously to the supposed competitor. However, when Di Palma floats helplessly in the Pacific after a crash and cannot be located, these thoughts are pushed aside; after being rescued, he becomes a full member of the crew. Further episodes deal with maneuvers and adventures of the crew when going ashore.

background

The series was initially heavily supported by the United States Navy , which benefited from advertising similar to the feature film Top Gun . The film was shot on the aircraft carrier USS Kennedy provided by the Navy . Airplanes were also provided. However, when the Navy officials were presented with scripts dealing with drugs and sex, the producers withdrew their support.

It first aired on ABC in March 1988 and ended on May 1, 1988 after broadcasting eight episodes. In Germany, nine episodes were broadcast on RTL Plus between October 25 and December 20, 1989 , as the pilot was shown in two parts. The hour-long episodes ran on Wednesdays at 7.15 p.m.
