Robert Hooks (born April 18, 1937 in Washington, DC ) is an American actor .

Life

A graduate of Temple University began his acting career in the theater as Bobby Dean Hooks , where he made his debut at the 1962 New York Broadway in Tiger, Tiger Burning Bright celebrated. In the award-winning drama he acted alongside Claudia McNeil , Diana Sands and Cicely Tyson, among others . Other theater roles followed, including the part of Clem in the musical production Hallelujah, Baby! for which he received a 1968 Tony Award nomination for best musical actor. Parallel to his theater work, Hooks took on guest roles in television series and made his debut in the cinema in 1967 with the dramas Sweet Love, Bitter and Morgen ist ein neue Tag by Herbert Danska and Otto Preminger . In the same year Hooks received the Laurel Award for best young actor, but could not build on previous successes despite further engagements in film and television. He became known to a worldwide audience in 1984 through the role of Admiral Morrow in Leonard Nimoy's directorial debut Star Trek III: In Search of Mr. Spock , while in the 1990s he frequently appeared on TV series such as LA Law - Star Lawyers, Tricks, Trials , Murder is her hobby , Seinfeld or Clueless - The Chaos Clique was subscribed to.

Aside from film and television cameras, Robert Hooks founded the Negro Ensemble Company and was also involved in the creation of the Washington DC Black Repertory Company . His sons Eric and Kevin Hooks also switched to acting.
