Jesus of Nazareth (English: The Passover Plot ) is a film drama from 1976 . The movie should not be confused with the 1977 film of the same name in Germany .

The film follows in its plot the book The Passover Plot by the British Bible student Hugh J. Schonfield , Nazarene faith . Accordingly, the film does not describe the Christ story in the usual New Testament way .
Jesus takes a drug , appears to be dead but does not die on the cross . He is buried in a cave and then freed from his followers. Ultimately, it is rumored that he rose from the dead.

The film was shot in Israel . Michael Campus was responsible for the direction, whose best-known film Streets to Hell ( The Mack ) was made shortly before in 1973. Patricia Louisianna Knop, later known for the feature films 9½ Weeks (1986) and Wilde Orchidee (1989) as well as some episodes of the erotic series Foxy Fantasies (1996), was obviously responsible for the script implementation . The main actor, Zalman King, was the scriptwriter's husband. The film was shown in Israeli and US cinemas as early as 1976. The film was only released in German cinemas on June 17, 1977. The costume designer of the film Mary Wills received an Oscar nomination in 1977 for best costume design . The film was later released on VHS in both English and German .
