The Impossible (original title Lo imposible , long title: The Impossible - Nothing is stronger than the will to survive , also The Impossible - Survival is everything ) is a melodramatic film from 2012 , which tells the true story of a Spanish family who lived when The 2004 tsunami was on the subject.
action
Henry and Maria Bennett arrive at their vacation hotel with their three sons in Khao Lak, Thailand on December 24, 2004 . On the day after next, the family at the hotel pool is hit by the tsunami . Maria, Henry and the children survive the catastrophe, but are separated. Maria and Lucas, the eldest son, first float together in the water, then wander through the rubble together and find a little boy, Daniel, who has been separated from his parents. They take him up a tree to get away from further waves. The three are found by Thai people who take Lucas and the seriously injured Maria to a hospital.
Henry is in the ruins of the hotel with his sons Thomas and Simon; he confides them to strangers who are brought to safety in the higher hinterland and continues the search for his wife and Lucas. Thomas and Simon are being transported away with a group of other children when they stumble upon their brother Lucas and their father during a stop at a hospital. So the whole family is reunited in the hospital, where Maria has to undergo surgery for her injuries. Afterwards, everyone will be flown to Singapore for better medical care .
Reviews
“Questions about what cannot be told, about the 'true story', as it is called exposed at the beginning of the film - the plot is based on the fate of the Spanish family Belon - are left out, 'The Impossible' even leaves them with its nasty emotional impact not emerging first does not make it his problem. The film opposes the not nearly similar pressure building up TV pictures from back then and dramaturgically less pointed Internet videos of the events with a consequent condensed transplantation of the natural disaster into individual physical suffering and its exhibition. There is nothing left to think outside the box. "
"'The Impossible' is a grippingly played and effective, but one-sidedly staged disaster drama about a family's struggle for survival."
“A family experienced the murderer sunami in Southeast Asia at the end of 2004 - that suggests a disaster film. Instead, The Impossible became a seldom intense drama with two incredibly strong leading actors. The only disappointing thing is the too constructed and kitschy ending. "
