Fernando Velázquez

Fernando Velázquez (born November 22, 1976 in Bilbao , Spain ) is a Spanish composer .

Life

Fernando Velázquez was born in Getxo, north of the Basque capital Bilbao . He doesn't come from any musical family. Rather, it was his own interest in music that led him to learn the guitar and play in several youth bands. Later he studied cello and after some engagements in orchestras he began to study composition at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid and in Paris. As a film composer, he was primarily responsible for short films from the late 1990s. His major international breakthrough came with the music for the horror drama The Orphanage , directed by Juan Antonio Bayona , for which he was nominated for best composer at the 2008 European Film Prize and also for best music at the Goya Spanish Film Prize . He received his second Goya nomination in 2013 for his music on The Impossible .
