Goya (film award)
The Goya (named after the Spanish painter Francisco de Goya ) is a Spanish film award . It is awarded by the Spanish Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas (Academy of Arts and Cinematic Sciences) . The prize is a bronze bust of Francisco de Goya.
History and description
The Academy was founded on January 8, 1986 as an institution under private law and has been awarding prizes at the beginning of each year since 1987. The focus is on promoting and honoring the Spanish film production of the previous year.
Prizes are currently being awarded in 28 categories, as well as an honorary Goya. In addition to the usual categories such as direction, production, acting, screenplay, camera, etc., the best foreign film in Spanish language (today this category is called Mejor Película Hispanoamericana - Best Ibero-American film) and the best European production are selected with a view to South America . Since the year 2000, four nominees have been competing for the prize in one category, before that there were three.
