Goya 2000
At the 14th presentation of the Spanish Goya Film Prize on January 29, 2000 , moderated by actress Antonia San Juan , Pedro Almodóvar's tragic comedy Everything About My Mother won in seven of the 26 categories in which the Goya was awarded. The film, which was later to be recognized as Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards , was previously the event's favorite with 14 nominations. In addition to José Luis Cuerdas La lengua de las mariposas (13 nominations, one Goya), Benito Zambrano's drama Solas , which won a prize at the Berlinale in 1999 , and Gracia Querejeta's film Time of Return Everything about my mother in in the Best Film category. Solas was able to convert eleven nominations into nine prizes, making it the film with the most awards.
Carlos Sauras Goya in Bordeaux is a film adaptation of the life of the painter Francisco de Goya , after whom the film award is named. She won seven Goyas out of ten nominations, including Francisco Rabal for Best Actor. Cecilia Roth was honored as the best leading actress for her portrayal of Manuela in All About My Mother . The best supporting actors were Juan Diego with París Tombuctú and María Galiana with Solas . The critically acclaimed and extremely successful tragic comedy Life is Beautiful by the Italian Roberto Benigni was awarded as the best European film and The Life, a Whistle by the Cuban Fernando Pérez as the best foreign film in Spanish.
The honorary Goya went to Antonio Isasi-Isasmendi , who worked as a director, screenwriter, film editor and producer in his film career, which has lasted since the 1940s.
