Jordi Mollà Perales (born July 1, 1968 in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat , Catalonia ) is a Spanish actor and director .

Life

Jordi Mollà studied acting at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona . After engagements at the Teatre Lliure in Barcelona and various television roles, he has been primarily active in film since his leading role in the internationally successful Jamon Jamon (1992). In addition to several other works with Bigas Luna , he has also been increasingly seen in American productions since 2000, for example in 2001 as Diego Delgado in Blow , in 2003 as the charismatic drug lord Johnny Tapia in Bad Boys II and in 2007 as the fanatical King Philip II of Spain in Elizabeth - The Golden Kingdom. In 2008 he appeared as Capitano Mario Vargas in Che Guerrilla , the second part of Steven Soderbergh's Che Guevara Biopic.

For his performances he was nominated once for best supporting actor (1997 for La celestina ) and three times as best leading actor (1998 for La buena estrella , 2000 for Segunda piel and 2010 for El cónsul de Sodoma ) for the Goya , the most important Spanish film award.

Mollà also works as a director: after the two short films Walter Peralta (1992) and No me importaría irme contigo (1994), he directed his first feature film No somos nadie in 2002 . His second feature film, Cinemart, followed in 2007 .

Mollà also published two books ( Las primeras veces and Agua estancada ) and had several exhibitions with his paintings and sculptures.

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
