Bigas Luna

José Juan Bigas Luna , as a stage name reduced to Bigas Luna (born March 19, 1946 in Barcelona , Spain , † April 6, 2013 in La Riera de Gaià , Tarragonès ), was a Spanish film director and screenwriter . Bigas Luna is one of the most influential and influential film directors in Spanish cinema. His films are primarily characterized by eroticism, sex, violence and passion. Some later Spanish film stars such as Ariadna Gil , Javier Bardem , Penélope Cruz or Jordi Mollà were discovered through Luna's films.

Life

Bigas Luna began his career as an industrial designer, but later joined an artist group and didn't get into film until the mid-1970s. At first he mainly made short films. It wasn't until 1978 that he first received international attention with his film Bilbao . Various national and international awards followed for his subsequent films. His best-known film is Jamon Jamon , who received the Silver Lion in Venice .

Luna died of cancer on April 6, 2013 in Tarragona .
