Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan , also known as Jack Ryan , is an American action series by Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland that began in 2018 and was released by the video-on-demand provider Prime Video . It is set in the Jack Ryan universe designed by Tom Clancy and consists of two 8-part seasons; a third season has been announced. The title role is played by John Krasinski .

Ryan and Greer are hunting the alleged Syrian terrorist Mousa Bin Suleiman in Europe and the Middle East . He immediately carried out a poison gas attack on a packed church in Paris, where he once grew up and was professionally and socially discriminated , killing hundreds of people. Ryan and Greer help Suleiman's wife escape to the United States with their children from her husband, and in return receive their help locating Suleiman. This secretly ensures that the US president is suspected of having been infected with Ebola virus via a team of Doctors Without Borders released by Suleiman . Suleiman wants to release radioactive material in the hospital in Washington, DC , where the president is being quarantined . Due to the use of Ryan and the Secret Service, however, the plan fails before he is shot by Ryan.

Ryan and Greer are investigating suspicious shipments in Venezuela , where the presidential election is currently taking place, that could potentially be used for terrorist attacks. Ryan and his long-time friend, US Senator Moreno, who has been investigating this for a long time, are assassinated in Caracas , in which Moreno dies. Ryan and Greer suspect that incumbent Venezuelan President Nicolas Reyes is responsible for both matters. In the course of the plot it becomes clear that a London company not only sent equipment and personnel for the mining of tantalum to Venezuela, working for a Venezuelan front company run by Reyes, but also helped mediate the attacker. Greer discovers a connection between the tantalum mining and the disappearance of the husband of Gloria Bonalde, Reyes' most promising opposition candidate and opponent. While Reyes tries to increase his chances of winning the election in Caracas through anti-American press reports and intimidation of the opposition, Ryan and a few helpers in the jungle free some of the opposition intellectuals imprisoned there on Reyes' behalf. With the media published photos of the other part of the prisoners killed by Reyes' followers, Ryan influences the election result so that Bonalde wins. When Greer was forcibly freed from the Venezuelan presidential palace by Ryan and his team, a number of security forces died. Finally, Ryan determines that another US Senator has cooperated in running the front company out of geostrategic interest.
Emergence
Jack Ryan, designed by Tom Clancy , has a long history in film and television. The character has previously been played by Alec Baldwin , Ben Affleck , Chris Pine and Harrison Ford . Baldwin first played this role in the 1990 film Hunt for Red October , while Ford played the character in The Hour of the Patriots and The Cartel . Affleck played Ryan in The Attack . Pine later took on the role in the non-novel based film Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit .
The idea for the series comes from Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland . Cuse said after the world premiere at the television festival in Monaco, "First we wanted to process a book by Clancy, but then we found it much more challenging, more interesting to connect the series with current events, with terrorism in the Middle East ". Roland added, "Our Jack Ryan production is more of a feature film, very real, of great authenticity".
Robert F. Phillips is the series producer. The Norwegian director Morten Tyldum directed the pilot episode. The music for the series was composed by Ramin Djawadi . The soundtrack, which includes 22 pieces of music (25 in the bonus version), was released for download on August 31, 2018 by La-La Land Records.
The shooting took place in Los Angeles , California, in a studio in Montreal, Canada, and in various countries in Europe and Africa.
Cast and dubbing
John Krasinski took on the title-giving lead role from Jack Ryan. The actress Dina Shihabi , who can be seen in the role of the wife of the top terrorist Suleiman, comes from Saudi Arabia and was unsure about playing this role because she plays a wife who turns against her husband and a mother who turns Resolves to give her children and herself a future beyond her husband's terrorist entanglements.
The German synchronization was established in 2018 after a dialogue book and the dialogue director of Oliver Schwiegershausen by the synchronous company Arena synchronous in Berlin .

At the beginning of October 2017, a first trailer for the series was published at New York Comic-Con, and another followed at the end of January 2018, shortly before the Super Bowl. A first long trailer was presented in June 2018, another in early July 2018.
The first season has been available on Prime Video since August 31, 2018 , the second season since November 1, 2019. In February 2019, Amazon extended the series by a third season.

David Griffin of ign.com said that thanks to writers Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland , Jack Ryan was the most interesting version to see in the franchise. The writers achieved this by starting early in Ryan's career when he was just an analyst with the CIA and was behind a desk. John Krasinski's charming portrayal of Ryan is immediately appealing, and his boyish smile, mixed with a hint of mischievousness, adds an unexpectedly funny layer to the otherwise dark plot, according to Griffin.
Several critics praised the fact that the series avoids stereotypes or black and white painting when depicting terrorists. The television magazine Prisma said that the Islamists were given a “credible background” and “not shown as blunt, uncultivated barbarians”. The critic of the Tagesspiegel was convinced that the series did not convey Islam as a "culture of evil", but that there are radicalized Muslims who do evil. In this respect, Jack Ryan is more thoughtful and further than series like Homeland or 24 . The NZZ author Felix Simon, who praised the general design, but criticized the representation and actions of the terrorists with the words that they would become “more and more absurd” and their representation “more and more stereotypical” was of a different opinion .
