Jovan Adepo (born September 6, 1988 in Upper Heyford , Oxfordshire) is a film and stage actor with US and British citizenship.

Life

Jovan Adepo was born in Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire, in 1988 . His mother is of Nigerian descent, his father is American and comes from Chattanooga, Tennessee. He moved to the United States with his family at the age of two and grew up in Maryland. He has dual citizenship. Adepo studied political science and wanted to become a journalist. After moving to Los Angeles, he gained his first experience as an actor. Nonetheless, he returned to Maryland in 2012, where he met Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis , who became his mentor.

Through Davis, Adepo got his first role of Cory Maxson in Fences by Denzel Washington , who also plays his father in the film. During this time he also stood in the role of Michael Murphy for a total of 18 episodes of the television series The Leftovers by HBO. His second film engagement was a supporting role in Mother! by Darren Aronofsky . In Operation: Overlord , he took on the role of Private Boyce.

In 2019 he starred alongside Jharrel Jerome , Chris Chalk , Freddy Miyares and Justin Cunningham in the television series When They See Us by Ava DuVernay in the role of one of the "Central Park Five". In the mystery thriller The Violent Heart by Kerem Sanga , Adepo plays the lead role, Daniel, who as a child witnessed his sister's murder and tries to leave his past behind.

From autumn 2019 he stood alongside James Marsden , Amber Heard and Whoopi Goldberg for the miniseries The Stand in front of the camera, which is to be shown in the course of 2020. In November 2019, Adepo made his first appearance on the television series The Watchmen, where he took on the role of Luis Gosset Jr., the first gay African American superhero on television.

Again and again Adepo took on theater roles, for example as a member of the Robey Theater Company in Los Angeles. He made an appearance with the group in a 2014 stage production for The Magnificent Dunbar Hotel . Adepo starred in a stage version of The Wizard of Oz at the Southern Friendship Theater and in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf at the Playhouse Theater . to be seen in the role of Nick.
