History of origin

In early October 2015, it was reported that Zack Snyder was in contact with HBO about a potential TV series on Watchmen. The report has been confirmed by HBO.

On June 20, 2017 it was confirmed that Snyder is no longer involved in the project. Instead, HBO began talking to Damon Lindelof . Finally, on September 20, 2017, it was reported that HBO had ordered the pilot episode.

On January 30, 2018, it was announced on Lindelof's script template that Nicole Kassell was responsible as the director of the pilot episode. Lindelof announced on May 22, 2018 that the series is not based directly on the comics, but instead tells a new storyline of the Watchmen in the series. Finally, on August 17, 2018, HBO added the order from the pilot episode to order a full first season and announced that it would premiere in 2019.

Filming for the pilot began in Atlanta on June 1, 2018 . All of the filming for the first season was in Georgia . In addition to Atlanta, Brooks , Fayetteville , Macon , Newnan , Palmetto and Tucker were used as locations for the pilot . The remainder of the season, which was filmed from October 2018, was also filmed in Brookhaven , Decatur , Peachtree City , McDonough and at the Chamblee and West Lake train stations . Filming for the first season ended in December 2018.
