Peachtree City is a city in Fayette County in the US state of Georgia with 34,364 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Peachtree City is about 10 km west of Fayetteville and about 40 km south of Atlanta . In the north the city borders directly on Tyrone . In the Peachtree City metropolitan area are Lake McIntosh , Lake Kedron , Lake Peachtree, and Wynns Pond .

history

The area around what is now Peachtree City was once inhabited by Muskogee Indians under their chief William McIntosh . On March 9, 1959, Peachtree City was founded as a planned city . The construction concept envisaged dividing the city into several villages . These neighborhoods are called Aberdeen, Braelinn, Glenloch, Kedron and Wilksmoor. Originally the plan was for a population of 75,000 to 80,000. In the 1970s, capacity was reduced to 40,000 to 50,000.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 34,364 inhabitants were distributed over 12,726 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.69 people per household. There are a total of 13,538 households.

77.5% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.10 people. There were children under the age of 18 in 40.2% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 22.8% of all households.

29.8% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 17.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 34.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 18.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 42 years. 48.3% of the population were male and 51.7% were female.

82.3% of the population identified themselves as white , 7.4% as African-American , 0.3% as Native American and 5.3% as Asian Americans . 2.3% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.4% to several ethnic groups. 7.1% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

The average annual income per household was 90,051 USD , while 5.8% of the population lived below the poverty line.

Peachtree City is crossed by Georgia State Routes 54 and 74 . The airfield Atlanta Regional Airport is located in the southern city of Peachtree City. The nearest international airport is Atlanta Airport (around 35 km north).

Peachtree City has a system of golf cart trails that weave through the city and provide a secondary means of access to almost any destination within the city limits. These multi-purpose trails extend for 140 km through the city. Many stores have specially designated golf cart parking spaces. The Peachtree City Police Department has several golf carts that can be used to patrol these trails.

The crime rate in 2010 was 79 points (US average: 266 points) in the low range. There were two rapes, three robberies, seven assaults, 44 break-ins, 365 thefts, 66 car thefts and eight arson.
