McDonough is a city and also the county seat of Henry County in the US state of Georgia with 22,084 inhabitants (as of 2010).

McDonough is about 30 km southeast of Atlanta .
history
The city was founded in 1823 and named after the naval officer Thomas Macdonough . McDonough was connected to the railroad network in 1887 by what was then Georgia Midland & Gulf Railroad . On June 23, 1900, the McDonough railway accident occurred around two kilometers north of the then city limits.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 22,084 inhabitants were distributed over 8,053 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.64 people per household. There are a total of 9,063 households.
67.1% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.25 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 43.0% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 16.8% of all households.
32.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 31.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 23.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 12.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 32 years. 45.8% of the population were male and 54.2% were female.
34.8% of the population identified themselves as whites , 58.2% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.8% as Asian Americans . 2.3% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.6% to several ethnic groups. 6.1% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 45,517 USD , while 15.3% of the population lived below the poverty line.

McDonough is crossed by Interstate 75 , US Highway 23, and Georgia State Routes 20 , 42 , 81 , 155 , 351, and 401 . The city is connected to rail freight by the Norfolk Southern Railway . The nearest airport is Atlanta Airport (around 30 km northwest).
