Erasmus Williams Beck (born October 21, 1833 in McDonough , Georgia , †  July 22, 1898 in Griffin , Georgia) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1872 and 1873 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Erasmus Beck attended both public and private schools and then studied for two years until 1855 at Mercer University in Macon . For health reasons, he had to drop out and return to McDonough. After studying law and his admission as a lawyer in 1856, he began to work in Griffin in this profession. During the Civil War he served briefly in the army of the Confederate States . However, he also had to give up military service for health reasons. He then served as a prosecutor in the Flint judicial district.

Politically, Beck was a member of the Democratic Party . After the death of MP Thomas J. Speer , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the fourth seat of Georgia , where he took up his new mandate on December 2, 1872. Since he renounced another candidacy in the regular elections of 1872 , he could only end the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1873 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Erasmus Beck returned to work as a lawyer. From 1890 until his death on July 22, 1898, he was a municipal judge in Griffin.
