Elijah Lewis "Tic" Forrester (born August 16, 1896 in Leesburg , Lee County , Georgia , † March 19, 1970 in Albany , Georgia) was an American politician . He represented the state of Georgia as a member of the US House of Representatives .

Career

Elijah Forrester was born on a farm near Leesburg in 1896. He attended the public school there. He then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1917. During the First World War he enlisted as a simple soldier in the US Army . After the war he began working as a lawyer in Leesburg in 1919. He was then a lawyer at Leesburg City Court between 1920 and 1933. He was also Mayor of Leesburg between 1922 and 1931. He was also 1928 prosecutor in Lee County. He held this position until 1937. He then became attorney general for the southwestern judicial district between 1937 and 1950.

Forrester took part in 1948 and 1952 as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions . He was also elected as a Democrat in the 82nd and six subsequent Congresses. His term of office ran from January 3, 1951 to January 3, 1965. Then he decided not to run again for the 89th Congress. He returned to his practice as a lawyer in Leesburg.

During his tenure in Congress, he participated in the constitution of the Southern Manifesto , which spoke out against racial integration in public institutions. Elijah Forrester died on March 19, 1970 in Albany. He was buried in the Leesburg cemetery.
