Marshall Johnson Wellborn

Marshall Johnson Wellborn (born May 29, 1808 in Eatonton , Georgia , †  October 16, 1874 in Columbus , Georgia) was an American politician . Between 1849 and 1851 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After primary school, Marshall Wellborn studied at the University of Georgia in Athens . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1826, he began to work in his new profession in Columbus. In his homeland he also held various local offices. Between 1838 and 1842 he was a judge in the Superior Court of Georgia.

Politically, Wellborn was a member of the Democratic Party . He was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives in 1833 and 1834 . In the congressional election of 1848 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Georgia , where he succeeded Alfred Iverson on March 4, 1849 . By March 3, 1851, he had only one term in Congress .

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Marshall Wellborn studied theology. In 1864 he was ordained as a clergyman in the Baptist Church. He carried out this activity until his death on October 16, 1874.
