J. Roy Rowland (1993)

James Roy Rowland (born February 3, 1926 in Wrightsville , Johnson County , Georgia ) is a former American politician . Between 1983 and 1995 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Roy Rowland attended public schools in his home country including Wrightville High School , which he graduated from in 1943. In the same year he was also briefly at the Emory School in Oxford . He then served as a sergeant in the US Army during World War II . After the war, he continued his education at South Georgia College in Douglas . Between 1946 and 1948 Rowland studied at the University of Georgia in Athens . This was followed by a medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta , which he graduated in 1952. After that he worked as a doctor.

Politically, Rowland joined the Democratic Party . Between 1976 and 1982 he was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives . In the 1982 congressional election , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Georgia , where he succeeded Billy Lee Evans on January 3, 1983 . After five re-elections, he was able to complete six legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1995 .

In 1994, Roy Rowland renounced another candidacy. In the following years he withdrew from politics.
