Henry Graybill Lamar

Henry Graybill Lamar (born July 10, 1798 in Clinton , Jones County , Georgia , †  September 10, 1861 in Macon , Georgia) was an American lawyer and politician . He represented the state of Georgia in the United States House of Representatives .

Lamar studied law and practiced as a lawyer in Macon after being admitted to the state bar. Prior to election to the Georgia House of Representatives , he was a State Superior Court judge .

In 1828 Lamar was elected to the United States House of Representatives as representative of the Democratic Republican Party ( Jacksonian ) for Georgia. During the current 21st congressional election period, he took the mandate of the resigned George Rockingham Gilmer . He was re-elected for the 22nd congressional election period and thus officiated from December 7, 1829 to March 3, 1833. In 1832 he could not prevail against William Schley in the re-election for the following 23rd election period . In 1857 he applied - also unsuccessfully - for the office of governor of Georgia. He was Associate Justice on the Supreme Court of Georgia . He died in Macon on September 10, 1861 and was buried on site in Rose Hill Cemetery .
