McDonough Railway Accident

In the McDonough railway accident on June 23, 1900, a train fell off a bridge. At least 35 people died.

The stone arch bridge on a railway line of the Southern Railway in Georgia , USA , near the town of McDonough , over a river had been washed out. A construction train manned by workers who were supposed to carry out repairs elsewhere fell 20 meters as it drove over the bridge. In the crash, the falling vehicles wedged themselves in the bridge rubble and burned out.
