Dina Shihabi ( Arabic دينا الشهابي, DMG Dīnā aš-Šihābī ; * September 22, 1989 in Riyadh ) is a Saudi Arabian - Palestinian actress .

Life

Shihabi comes from a cosmopolitan family. Her father is of Saudi and Norwegian descent, her mother is a Palestinian who grew up in France and has German and Haitian ancestry. Shihabi was born in Riyadh and grew up in Dubai and Beirut . In Dubai she took dance lessons when she was 13. In 2007 she moved to New York City . There she studied for two years at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and worked as an actor and dancer in several theater productions, and she also appeared as a dancer in the comedy show Saturday Night Live .

Shihabi has been working as a film actress since 2010. In 2011, she became the first woman from Saudi Arabia to study acting at the Juilliard School and the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University (NYU). In 2014 she graduated from NYU with a Master of Fine Arts . In the same year she had her first leading role in the romantic comedy Amira & Sam , another in 2017 in the war drama Cigarette Soup . Shihabi also appeared in several television series and starred in the first season of the action series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan (2018) and in the second season of the science fiction series Altered Carbon - The Immortality Program (2020).
