Ramin Djawadi (born July 19, 1974 in Duisburg ) is a German - Iranian composer of orchestral music for film and television. He was best known for his music for the US television series Game of Thrones .

Career

Ramin Djawadi is the son of an Iranian and a German. At the age of four he started playing his first instrument, the organ. He later focused on the guitar and other stringed instruments as a teenager. Metallica and Coldplay were his role models; he decided to study in the USA to become a film musician.

Djawadi graduated from Berklee College of Music with Summa Cum Laude in 1998 . Hans Zimmer then recruited him for his Remote Control Productions . There he initially assisted Klaus Badelt , later also Zimmer himself, e.g. B. in films like Batman Begins and Pirates of the Caribbean . He wrote his own film scores for Blade: Trinity (with RZA ), Ask the Dust , Jagdfieber , Mr. Brooks , Deception - Tödliche Temptung and Iron Man . At the 22nd Annual ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards, Djawadi won an award together with Paul Westerberg for his contribution to the score of Jagdfieber .

Djawadi also composed for computer games , so he wrote the music for Gears of War 4 in 2016 .

In addition Djawadi composed theme songs for TV series. His music for Prison Break earned him a 2006 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music. On September 3, 2007, he released an album with his music for the series. Guillermo del Toro hired him in February 2012 as a composer for the action film Pacific Rim , which was released in 2013. He had the title track recorded by Tom Morello , the guitarist of the band Rage Against the Machine .

Ramin Djawadi has been writing the music for the successful US TV series Game of Thrones (until 2019) and Person of Interest (until 2016) since 2011 . He has been composing the music for the Westworld series since 2016 . One piece from the soundtrack is an orchestral cover version of the Rolling Stones hit Paint it Black .

In 2018 Djawadi won the Emmy Award for the series Game of Thrones .
