Prison Break is an American action series by author Paul Scheuring , which was produced from 2005 to 2009 and continued in 2017. It currently consists of 90 episodes, which are divided into five seasons. The first broadcast took place from August 29, 2005 on the US television channel Fox . In 2010 a direct sequel was released with the film Prison Break - The Final Break . In August 2015, the production of a nine-part fifth season was announced, which aired on April 4, 2017 on Fox. In early January 2018, Prison Break was announced to be extended by a sixth season. This announcement was essentially withdrawn on August 9, 2019. "Scheuring had previously emphasized that it was not easy to develop another convincing story after five seasons." The sequel is therefore on hold for the time being.

action

The series is about an outbreak , the subsequent escape from the prison Fox River State Penitentiary and the fight against an organization of international corporations and governments, Company . Michael Scofield tries to get his innocent deathly sentenced brother Lincoln Burrows out of prison.

First season

The east gate of the Joliet Correctional Center , which was the location of the first two seasons.

Lincoln Burrows is charged with the murder of Terrence Steadman, brother of the Vice President of the United States . With solid evidence such as a surveillance video and his fingerprints on the murder weapon, he is sentenced to death by the electric chair for serious murder , although he repeatedly protests his innocence. He is said to be serving in Fox River State Prison until his execution .

Michael Scofield, convinced of his brother Lincoln's innocence, decides to get him out of prison. Since Scofield was involved in the reconstruction of the prison as a structural engineer, he can gain access to the construction plans. Because of their complexity , he has them tattooed on his entire upper body , hidden in a variety of motifs. After destroying almost all evidence of his plan, he half-heartedly raids a bank in order to obtain his conviction and also to end up in Fox River Prison. After his imprisonment, he begins to put his plan into action, which turns out to be more difficult than originally planned. Scofield gets problems with the imprisoned ex-Mafia boss John Abruzzi, among other things. However, after he lets him in on his plan, since Abruzzi can provide escape planes, they work together. Theodore Bagwell, Benjamin Miles Franklin and Scofield's cell partner Fernando Sucre will soon also have to be told about the plan. The oldest inmate in the prison, hijacker Charles Westmoreland, is also accepted into the team because he can contribute a large amount of money.

The only possible escape route is through the infirmary, but the building that appears to be the only escape route is the prison guards' lounge. To gain access to this, Scofield persuades Charles Westmoreland to start a fire. As a result, the prisoners who belong to the working group then have to renovate the room. From this room a hole is dug to the underground passage towards the infirmary. Just before Lincoln is about to be executed, the team wants to put their plan into practice. But just before the escape attempt can begin, Lincoln knocks down a guard to prevent exposure of the plan. As a punishment, he ends up in a bunker, which throws up the plan and makes it impossible for him to escape. Due to a fake food poisoning, Lincoln is said to come to the infirmary and join the outbreak team. The escape is thwarted by the fact that access to the infirmary is suddenly blocked by a replaced water pipe. The execution seems inevitable, but one minute before the execution the judge surprisingly grants a two-week postponement. Scofield feigns a nervous breakdown and comes to the prison psychiatric ward to work on an alternative escape route from there.

At the same time, the lawyer and former friend of Lincoln, Veronica Donovan, is working to uncover the conspiracy surrounding the murder by legal means and thus prevent the execution. Nick Savrinn, a Project Justice employee , is at her side. Bit by bit, the two uncover the plot about the vice-president, but find no solid evidence.

The two special agents Paul Kellerman and Hale, who belong to the team around the Vice President (the so-called Company ), try meanwhile to prevent the uncovering of the plot at all costs. In addition, they absolutely want to obtain the execution of Lincoln and blackmail governor Frank Tancredi (the father of prison doctor Sara Tancredi) and prison director Henry Pope, among others. Agent Hale, however, wants to end the collaboration with the company and tries to contact Veronica Donovan to inform her that Terrance Steadman is still alive. Shortly before he can present the evidence to Veronica, Agent Kellerman appears and murders Hale, who also wrote Kellerman's name on the evidence list. Veronica can only watch this in shock from her hiding place. Finally there is an assassination attempt on the president, whereby Reynolds now holds that office.

Sara Tancredi, drawn to Scofield, is introduced to the escape plan. She leaves the door to the infirmary open, which ultimately enables a total of eight prisoners to escape. Meanwhile, attorney Donovan finds out that Savrinn was cheating on her too, because he works for John Abruzzi, who needs assurance that Scofield will give him the man he was imprisoned for. Savrinn promised to hand Veronica over as leverage on Scofield in exchange for his father's freedom. At the last moment, however, he decides to put Veronica on a plane to find Terrance Steadman in Montana. As a result, Savrinn and his father are murdered by Abruzzi's henchmen. Meanwhile, Veronica finds the lively Terrance Steadman. There are approximately two months between Michael Scofield's imprisonment and the outbreak.

Second season

William Fichtner plays Alexander Mahone

The second season begins eight hours after the escape of eight inmates from Fox River Prison, who are still on the run. These include the Scofield brothers, Fernando Sucre, John Abruzzi, Benjamin Miles "C-Note" Franklin, Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell, David "Tweener" Apolskis and Charles "Haywire" Patoshik. In addition to the police, they are followed by two former prison guards, Bellick and Geary, who are interested in collecting the bounty, and by Special Agent Alexander Mahone, whose real intention is to liquidate the refugees. He acts on behalf of Bill Kim, one of the heads of the company , who uses Mahone's family as leverage. Meanwhile, agent Paul Kellerman is assigned to persuade Sara Tancredi to reveal certain information and then to kill her.

The lawyer Veronica Donovan meets the living Terrance Steadman and now finally has solid evidence. But because the doors to Steadman's house can only be opened from the outside, she calls the police. The police officers who appear turn out to be company employees and murder Veronica Donovan. Donovan's attempt to exonerate Burrows by legal means has therefore failed and the brothers' escape continues. Scofield and Burrows later split up with the other fugitives. They want to pursue their own goals, but in the end they make the same decision - to get to Utah to get the five million US dollars that Charles Westmoreland has hidden there.

Scofield and Burrows are forced to team up with T-Bag and Tweener in Utah. When they have determined the whereabouts of the money, Fernando Sucre and Benjamin Miles Franklin join them. After a confused mess, T-Bag manages to escape with the five million US dollars. T-Bag is overwhelmed by Bellick and Geary at his ex-girlfriend's house, which has since been abandoned. You take the money from him. T-Bag later gets the money again with the help of a tracking device and finally kills Geary. However, Bellick is suspected of this murder. He is detained in Fox River State Prison, his old job as a guard, and has serious problems with the inmates there.

In the meantime, David Apolskis and John Abruzzi have been shot dead by FBI agent Alexander Mahone. Charles “Haywire” Patoshik later commits suicide in the presence of Mahone.

Michael and Sucre manage to organize a flight to Mexico . Michael suddenly meets his father, who appears at the meeting point with Lincoln. Finally Mahone appears, who shoots Michael's father, who dies shortly afterwards. However, Scofield decides to go looking for Sara together with his brother Lincoln, so Fernando Sucre continues the flight by plane alone. When Mahone tries to kill the two Scofield brothers when they meet again, the border police prevent this. The brothers are eventually arrested.

Meanwhile, a fighter jet is said to shoot down the plane with Sucre on board. However, Sucre can jump off in time and get to his girlfriend Maricruz via detours.

After Sara Tancredi managed to break free from Kellerman, Kellerman got into trouble with his client, Bill Kim. Kellerman is now supposed to kill the two Scofield brothers together with Mahone while the prisoners are being transported.

Kellerman feels betrayed and ends the collaboration with the company, eventually switching sides. He brings the Scofield brothers to safety and eventually leads them to Terrence Steadman. However, Steadman committed suicide a short time later and his identity was not revealed publicly. Meanwhile, T-Bag tracked down his ex-girlfriend and C-Note's wife was arrested.

Mahone gets Bellick out of jail after a while to work with him. Sara distrusts Kellerman and is concerned that Michael and Lincoln are working with him. But now they are on their way to Chicago to get a USB stick with a recorded conversation between Terrence and his sister Caroline, which is supposed to prove Lincoln's innocence.

C-Note offers Mahone a deal: In return for the release of his wife and the treatment of his sick daughter, he wants to lead Mahone to Michael Scofield. Mahone agrees, but on the condition that Franklin commit suicide in his cell, which is prevented by a prison guard.

With the help of the former Fox River State prison director Henry Pope, Michael, Lincoln and Sara get the USB stick, which is supposed to prove Lincoln's innocence, and then separate from Paul Kellerman. Mahone is assigned to kill Scofield and Burrows.

Michael Scofield is caught by Bill Kim and interrogated under torture at a reception for former Vice President Caroline Reynolds, who has now been appointed head of state of the United States due to the poisoning of the President. President Reynolds appears and then has a conversation with Michael alone. With the tape, Michael wants to force a pardon for him and his brother. President Reynolds first responds to the demands and releases Michael.

After Reynolds is subsequently threatened by Bill Kim, she announces her resignation, so that Michael and Lincoln see their only way out in an escape to Panama. There they later meet T-Bag, Sucre, Bellick and Mahone. After some entanglements, Bellick (on suspicion of murder) and Mahone (suspected of drug trafficking) are taken to the Penitenciaría Federal de Sona prison.

Meanwhile, Sara Tancredi is charged with aiding and abetting escape in the United States. When the former company employee Paul Kellerman exonerates them with solid evidence, Lincoln Burrows is acquitted, who only finds out when Tancredi comes to his brother and him in Panama. The three meet on a motorboat ordered by Michael, where Bill Kim suddenly appears. When he tries to shoot Lincoln, he is killed by Sara. After a brief escape from the military, Michael sacrifices himself for Sara and turns himself in for the murder. He was then sent to the Penitenciaría Federal de Sona prison .

Third season

Jodi Lyn O'Keefe plays Gretchen Morgan

Michael Scofield is imprisoned with Mahone, Bellick and T-Bag in Sona Prison, located in Panama . Since the last uprising by the prisoners, the prison guards have only controlled the prison outside the walls in order to be able to catch fugitives. The prisoners have set up their own hierarchy under the leadership of drug lord Lechero. A life-and-death fight with a fellow prisoner - the prison-required way of resolving disputes - Scofield can only win and survive with the help of Mahone.

Susan B. Anthony - actually Gretchen Morgan - meets with Burrows on behalf of the Company . The Company wants to achieve, among other things, that Scofield breaks out of Sona and thereby freed the inmates James Whistler. Sara Tancredi and Burrow's son are held prisoner by the company as leverage.

Because Whistler allegedly murdered the son of the mayor of Panama City, whoever finds and kills Whistler can be released from prison. Therefore, he lives hidden in a wall in the prison sewers. Michael is now doing everything in his power to find Whistler - and will find him too.

T-Bag has now earned the trust of Lechero. Carelessness causes the last of the water to be spilled in the prison, almost causing a revolt among the prisoners. At the same time, Mahone also finds Whistler's hiding place and wants to hand him over to Lechero. Scofield restores the drinking water supply with a targeted blast in the pipeline system, thereby preventing the revolt - and as a thank you Lechero waives Whistler's extradition.

In order to have some leverage to save Sara and his son, Lincoln Burrows takes Whistler's friend Sofia from the contents of a bank safe. Lincoln is soon forced to give the book contained therein to the company . When he hands over a copy, the company notices it. Lincoln insists on a sign of life from Sara and his son LJ, otherwise he threatens that Michael will not break out of Sona with Whistler. Lincoln then receives pictures of the two of them, showing Sara holding a daily newspaper in her hands and informing them of their whereabouts unnoticed. Lincoln recognizes the hidden clue in the picture and now Michael tries to get the only cell phone in Sona - Lechero's phone. Michael manages to blackmail T-Bag and use him to get to the cell phone. Michael calls Lincoln and leads him there, but the kidnappers manage to escape with LJ and Sara. Gretchen warns Lincoln not to try something like this again. To make this clear, she puts a package for him in the hotel's garage, which contains the severed head of a woman. Because of the shock, Lincoln believes it may be Dr. Sara Tancredi acts.

Michael, who is initially not informed of Sara's apparent death, manages to get a cell of his choice from Lechero. To do this, he uses a trick to cause a power failure, which makes Lechero dependent on his help.

In order to make the escape from Sona possible, Fernando Sucre is used with the help of Lincoln and Gretchen for the position as a corpse disposal in Sona. The fence is moistened with a chemical against the smell of decay, which also has the property of decomposing metal.

Meanwhile, T-Bag tries to favor his position in Sona by killing one of Lechero's people in order to take his place as a drug dealer. When his plan works, the first thing he tries is to win Mahone as a customer. Michael offers Mahone to take him on board when he escapes, with the hope of being able to immobilize him, but with the ulterior motive of dropping him at the last moment. But Mahone, whose withdrawal symptoms now even bring hallucinations with them (Haywire appears to him), assesses the situation correctly and tries to intimidate Michael with a knife. Mahone is summoned to tell a judge all about the company in exchange for freedom . However, he is unable to do so because of the withdrawal symptoms and is later admitted to Sona again.

After a failed attempt to break out of Sona with Whistler, Lechero is ousted by Sona's head guard. Lechero then allies with Michael. Together they decide to dig a tunnel in an underground canal system that can be reached from Lechero's cell.

Meanwhile, Sofia, Whistler's partner, notices that her husband is not so innocent after all. She discovers more and more who is behind the name James Whistler and becomes more and more skeptical about him. Eventually she is also captured by Gretchen and used as leverage. An attempt by the company to free Whistler early from Sona by helicopter also fails.

In another attempt to escape, T-Bag, Bellick and Lechero are captured. Mahone, Whistler, Michael and another prisoner, Luis, use the guards' distraction to escape through the broken fence. By accident, however, Sucre is arrested and also imprisoned in Sona. Michael arranges an exchange from Whistler for LJ and Sofia at a museum.

At the end of the third season, Bellick, T-Bag and Sucre remain incarcerated in Sona. T-Bag tells Lechero about an allegedly corrupt guard who is bribed for $ 50,000. Lechero is killed by T-Bag after getting the money. With a rousing speech and Lechero's money, T-Bag wins the prisoners' trust. In a final scene, Whistler offers Mahone a job with the company and Mahone accepts. Lincoln's son and Sofia appear safe. Michael decides - instead of going to safety with them and his brother - for a campaign of revenge against Gretchen to hunt them down and bring them down.

Fourth season

Before the fourth season started, Michael Scofield had followed Gretchen and Whistler all the way to Los Angeles. Michael catches the two as they are about to steal a memory card named Scylla . When Michael tries to get revenge on Gretchen for Sara's death, he learns that Sara is still alive. Whistler copies the card without Gretchen's knowledge, which is why it is arrested by Wyatt, a member of the Company, on their behalf and later tortured. Whistler himself is shot by Wyatt a little later.

Meanwhile, T-Bag, Sucre and Bellick manage to escape after a prisoner riot in Sona. On behalf of the homeland security agent Donald Self, Michael, Sara, Lincoln, Mahone, Sucre, Bellick and the hacker Roland Scylla are supposed to find. Otherwise they should be imprisoned. They manage to copy and read out the contents of the memory card they are looking for, which is located in a highly secured penthouse . However, Roland notes that the card content is only part of a larger archive and that five more cards have to be found. Scofield films all the card holders at a secret meeting. Meanwhile, T-Bag tries to find Scylla with the help of Whistler's bird book. The latter had lost it when he broke out of Sona, T-Bag had found it on site, but since it only contains cryptic instructions, the project is difficult. At the Gate Corporation, T-Bag appears instead of the dead Whistler under his pseudonym as Cole Pfeiffer, where he is warmly welcomed by the boss and given his own office - the place where T-Bag tries to search for clues from the book.

Roland has developed a device that automatically reads data carriers in the immediate vicinity. The group receives the data on the second card from a companion of a Turkish diplomat at a public appearance. They receive the data on the third card through a safe in the Ministry of Finance, disguising themselves as the cleaning team. Xing, a trading partner of Whistler, turns up at Cole Pfeiffer alias T-Bag and threatens to kill him if he doesn't get Scylla within a short time . In the meantime, the group manages to copy the fourth card - but Mahone is arrested and taken to the police station. Because Mahone is freed from the group during the summons, he can narrowly escape the killer Wyatt.

Gretchen escapes from Company captivity. She tracks down T-Bag in his house and forces him to work together. He successfully lures Michael, Mahone and Bellick into a trap, but Mahone escapes and notifies Agent Self. Michael, however, is forced to decipher the next clue from the bird book. You have to go into the back room of Bagwell's office, which is the entrance to a secret room through which you can get to Scylla . Mahone receives a hint that T-Bag can be overwhelmed. When Michael and Mahone leave the building with Agent Self, Gretchen calls them and they find an envelope with another page of the bird book. Meanwhile, Lincoln, Sucre, Roland and Sara are in Las Vegas to copy the contents of the fifth card. Sucre succeeds, but Roland's device is confiscated by security forces, as Roland is known as a gambler and is in the casino despite being banned from entering the casino. Losing the copier, Michael and his followers plan to steal the last missing card held by General Krantz. Meanwhile, Roland contacts Wyatt to reveal the whereabouts of Scofield and his supporters for money, but is killed by Wyatt at a meeting. Wyatt can be overwhelmed by Michael, Lincoln and Mahone on the scene. He is later interrogated, tortured and killed by Mahone in revenge for killing his young son. Meanwhile, General Krantz orders Scylla to be relocated. Scofield can decipher further clues in Whistler's bird book - and identify the room where the missing pieces of the map puzzle can be found. However, a head-high water main blocks the way to the secret room in which Scylla is located. By sabotaging the water supply, drilling a hole on both sides and using a pipe as a bridge themselves, they find a way to Scylla . Just before the water supply is switched on again, however, the extremely heavy pipe slips off a beam. Brad Bellick can straighten the pipe at the last moment, but sacrifices himself and dies after the water supply is reactivated and the pipe is flooded.

Scylla now seems to be within reach, but Gretchen's attempt to steal the last and sixth cards during a rendezvous with Krantz fails, so that the others have to try to get at the computer that can decode Scylla with only five Scylla cards before Scylla is moved. Michael has nosebleeds and faintness attacks during the course of the action, which after an analysis in the hospital turns out to be a symptom of a tumor. The situation also comes to a head when T-Bag discovers that his secretary works with Agent Self for the FBI, whereupon T-Bag takes his entire office floor hostage with gun violence and Gretchen's help. At the same time, Michael and his crew manage to get Scylla . Michael triggers the security system to set a trap for the company. Krantz takes the elevator straight from his office to Scylla to catch and kill Michael. However, he and his company agents can be overwhelmed by Sucre, Burrows and Mahone and the general's card is stolen. When Scylla is in Self's hands, Michael and the others find out that he is only interested in the sale and not in the official seizure of Scylla . During an attempt to sell, which Self arranged in cooperation with Gretchen, it turns out that Michael kept part of the chip for security reasons. Self's attempt at capture fails, but there are cameras in the smoke bombs used, which allows him to get the missing piece. Michael, on the other hand, is tracked down by the general and taken to the company building. There he will undergo a vital operation and his tumor will be removed. He then learns that his mother named Christina Rose Scofield is still alive and working for the company. Michael is able to escape from his recruiting program to join a company employee. In the further course Scylla comes into the hands of Christina.

Lincoln wants to get Scylla back for the Company , in return nothing should happen to the family members of all parties involved, but Michael wants to prevent this. Christina Scofield orders an attack on General Krantz, which he survives seriously injured. There is a secret meeting between Lincoln and Christina. Christina warns Lincoln not to return to the current meeting point and to wait until Scylla is sold. Eventually Michael is able to kidnap a researcher named Sandinsky, but is stopped at the last moment by Christina's people. Lincoln appears, is able to save Michael and takes Sandinsky to his hiding place.

Michael can kidnap his own mother, but she later escapes. Christina reveals that only Michael should be her real son - Lincoln, however, is adopted. Christina can often see through Michael's approach as she seems to be a similar genius. Among other things, she can deduce her pregnancy from Sara's facial features. Christina regains possession of Scylla and manages to frame Lincoln and Michael for the murder by assassinating the son of the Indian Prime Minister. Christina wants to start a war between China and India in which she could sell Scylla's weapons technology to both sides. Finally, Michael can get back to Scylla , but Lincoln is captured by Christina while he escapes. Christina uses Lincoln as leverage and threatens to kill him if Michael doesn't get Scylla for her. General Krantz, who still wants Scylla back , threatens the death of Sara and the family members of Self, Mahone and Burrows - as proof that the general is really serious, Don Self's wheelchair-bound wife becomes a company employee shot. Michael and Mahone, torn, are now forced to act. Michael builds a Scylla dummy with explosives, which Mahone brings to Christina. Michael hides an empty box in a place agreed by General Krantz. Michael enters the apartment via the outside facade of the hotel, in which only T-Bag and Sara are now. T-Bag has since become a candidate for a company agent and wants to rape Sara. Michael knocks down T-Bag and then escapes with Sara.

Lincoln, Mahone, Sara and Michael wonder what to do with Scylla when the former agent Kellerman calls them on their cell phone. It turns out that he wasn't killed in the second season and that he built a new life for himself to destroy the company for good. The UN is clearly interested in clearing up the entire case. Krantz, who is about to execute T-Bag for his failure, receives a call from Sucres on Sara's cell phone, which he still has. A trap is to be set for Sucre, but Sucre cooperates with Benjamin Miles "C-Note" Franklin, who has also returned, who now works for Kellerman and the UN. Sara and Mahone steal from a hospital to treat Lincoln's gunshot wound at the same time. Mahone is arrested by the FBI agents who were standing with Don Self, who was lying there, after he was wounded and had escaped from General Krantz's custody some time before. Since Self represents a possible danger for Christina, he is poisoned by her people, so that he will be largely paralyzed for life. When Sara gets back to the car, the company robbed it. Michael, Lincoln and Sara are taken to see General Krantz, who is threatened with the execution of Sofia Lugo, who is being held overseas by Company agents, because Michael claims he no longer owns Scylla . Just then, C-Note and Sucre storm the room, take out the company agents and force Krantz to release Sofia. The group wants to bring Scylla to Kellerman, but they are ambushed by Christina, who has found the Scylla hiding place. Christina is killed by Sara before she can shoot Michael.

Eventually Scylla is brought to the UN and all but T-Bag is pardoned. Michael and Sara embrace happily ever after.

The plot jumps four years into the future: General Krantz takes the electric chair. Michael's son and mother Sara, Lincoln, Sucre and Mahone are all getting ready in different places to go to a special event. The fourth season ends with them standing in front of a tombstone on which it says:

The final break

The film Prison Break - The Final Break , which was released on January 8, 2010 - after the broadcast of the fourth season - on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, clarifies unanswered questions from the fourth season. The action starts a few weeks after the pardon. Michael and Sara get married on the beach. The subsequent celebration is stormed by the FBI, which arrests Sara and blames the murder of Christina Rose Scofield, Michael's mother. Sara is then taken to a women's prison, although she has not yet been sentenced. The general, who, like “T-Bag”, is in the men's wing of the same prison, offers a bounty of $ 100,000 on Sara's death, who is then poisoned while eating, but survives.

Michael then decides to get his wife out of prison to protect her from the dangers lurking there. Within the prison grounds, the two meet in a prayer house during the act of escape, from where they advance to a door in a cellar room, which, however, cannot be opened. Michael then sacrifices himself by bringing two power cables together with his bare hands and thus briefly opening the door lock. Sara meets Mahone, Lincoln and Sucre behind the door.

The film ends with a scene in which Lincoln and Sara watch a video recorded by Michael before his death on a yacht, in which he says how much he loves them both and explains that he would soon die anyway due to his revived brain tumor and therefore gave his life to save his wife and child.

Fifth season

Mark Feuerstein plays Jacob Anton Ness

In August 2015, the production of a fifth season with nine episodes was announced, which is directly linked to the fourth season. In addition, the return of the roles of Michael Scofield, Lincoln Burrows, Dr. Sara Tancredi and Fernando Sucre confirmed. Filming started in early April 2016 and the first trailer for the sequel was released on May 17, 2016. The American broadcaster FOX took over the English-language broadcast from April 4, 2017, while the German-language broadcast was taken over by the broadcaster RTL II from April 8 of the same year. Despite the low ratings, a 6th season is under discussion.

Season 5 takes place seven years after Michael faked his death. Sara is newly married to Jacob Anton Ness and lives with him and her and Michael's son Mike in a common house. Lincoln Burrows broke up with Sofia and returned to the United States, where he got back into criminal circles. T-Bag is released from jail and receives an envelope with a letter that appears to have been from Michael, and he contacts Lincoln. Lincoln believes the envelope and letter are fake and contacts Sara, who doesn't believe Michael is still alive. Lincoln then stands in front of Michael's tombstone, which is slightly different from season 4 and has a different date of death:

English original

Michael J. Scofield - October 8, 1974 - November 4, 2010 - Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Friend - "Be the change you want to see in the world"

German translation

Michael J. Scofield - October 8, 1974 to November 4, 2010 - husband, father, brother, uncle, friend - "Be the change you want in this world"  ( Gandhi )

Lincoln then opens Michael's grave and finds that there is no body in Michael's grave. Then an assassination attempt is carried out on Lincoln, which he survived without major injuries. A short time later, a woman storms into Sara and her husband's house and begins an exchange of fire between her and Sara's husband Jacob, in which the latter is injured. When the police arrive, the woman is scared away. The incidents are evidently related to one another.

Lincoln looks at Michael's letter again and discovers a message in the picture that points to Ogygia, a prison in Yemen. He researches the inmates, but his brother is not listed there. He is therefore forced to look for him on site. He contacts her old colleague, C-Note, who has become very religious in the meantime and thus gains contacts in Yemen. Sucre also wants to join the two, but remains in the USA on the advice of C-Note. At the airport in Yemen they are lured into a garage by a fake contact and attacked there. A woman named Sheba helps them escape and gives them a safe place to stay. Together they visit Ogygia and discover that Michael is in prison as a dangerous terrorist under the name Kaniel Outis. He claims not to know Lincoln and C-Note and goes back to his cell.

Sheba seems to be familiar with the name Kaniel Outis and she doesn't want to have anything to do with Lincoln and C-Note, but they offer their money to help them further. Meanwhile, Michael is preparing an outbreak with the imprisoned ISIS leader Abu Ramal. He is supported by his right hand Whip, the drug rehab Korean Ja and Sid, who is imprisoned for his homosexuality. Lincoln and C-Note receive a message asking them to visit the "Sheikh of Light". Behind this is Sid's father, the manager of the electricity company, who played an important role in the outbreak. Lincoln, C-Note and Sheba free him from the clutches of IS and Sheba's tormentor Yasser and promise to help him and his daughter out of the country. Meanwhile, a video informs Sara that Michael is still alive. She asks the State Department for help, where she meets Paul Kellerman. He informs her about Michael's assumption of identity from Kaniel Outis and points out the rumor that he had murdered a high-ranking CIA man.

Michael sends Lincoln and C-Note a message marking the rendezvous point after the breakout. There you will find several pictures of Michael and Abu Ramal as well as the entire plan. Sara continues to be pursued by the woman who broke into her home and is now with the man who attacked Lincoln. It turns out that her cell phone was also hacked, leading her to suspect Kellerman. She contacts T-Bag and tells him about it. He should find out from now on who the two persecutors are. Sheba and Lincoln apply for forged passports and are attacked if they are handed over. Sheba is tortured by Yasser, but can be freed by Lincoln. Michael and Whip stage an argument, which leads to an entrapment. They use this for their first attempt to escape after C-Note and Sid's father caused a power failure. Ramal is neglected, but the outbreak fails. Michael, Whip and Ja as well as Ramal are in solitary confinement.

T-Bag pays Kellerman a visit. It becomes clear that he has not hacked Sara's cell phone, nor has anything to do with the two chasers who turn out to be the hit men A&W and Van Gogh. He attributes the whole thing to a CIA agent who has the code name Poseidon. Kellerman is murdered by A&W and Van Gogh shortly afterwards, and T-Bag escapes. He can then watch a meeting of the two killers with Jacob. Meanwhile, Lincoln, Sheba and C-Note try to get Michael out of prison with a pardon, but with the war and uprisings of the prisoners approaching, Ogygia is inaccessible and lost. Lincoln wants to free Michael from outside the prison and asks C-Note and Sheba to keep two places free for them at the airport. Michael, Sid, Ja and Whip manage to flee themselves, but they had to reunite with Ramal. After the escapees were taken by surprise outside by Ramal's people, they are now to be executed in front of the camera. Lincoln arrives on the scene and manages to kill Ramal and free Michael, Sid, Ja and Whip. Now they are being hunted by the entire IS.

Sara is informed by T-Bag that Jacob is in league with A&W and Van Gogh and is therefore probably behind the name Poseidon. After a confrontation, he makes her believe that he is innocent and regains Sara's trust. Meanwhile, the escapees are planning how to leave the country. Michael tells his brother why he had to fake his death; so he was forced for the CIA agent Poseidon, leader of the CIA splinter group 21 Void, of which A&W and Van Gogh are also members, to get terrorists out of prisons in return for the freedom of him, Lincoln and Sara. Kellerman had no authority to drop the charges. All contact was forbidden.

A failed attempt to escape via the train station leads the five to the airport, where C-Note and Sheba were able to make a plane clear and only wait for the fugitives. On the way, however, they are stopped once more by IS. Yasser kills Sid. As a result, C-Note and Sheba have to take off before the remaining four arrive, as IS is already advancing onto the tarmac. Alternatively, contact Sheba's contact Omar. This helps them after an attempted but unsuccessful ambush on the four. Together they set their sights on the IS-free village of Phaecia. On the way, Michael makes contact with a friend of Blue Hawaii. Meanwhile, A&W, Van Gogh, and other agents send a drone to spy on them. Van Gogh secretly informs some IS troops, of which Yasser is a part. Omar dies in the battle. Yasser pursues the five through the desert that is part of the path to Phaecia, which is why Michael has to separate from the rest of the group in order to mislead Yasser. Michael injures himself in a fight, but manages to walk to Phaecia.

Since Michael needs medical help and does not get it in the village, Lincoln calls Sara because a hospital is too unsafe because of the search for Kaniel Outis. Lincoln, Michael and Whip reach Crete on a smuggler ship. Yes, stay in Phaecia. Sara treats him in a hotel room while he explains to Sara that Jacob is Poseidon and that he would be a danger to her son Mike. Lincoln and Whip ask Sucre for help. This works on a freighter, which can allow them an undetected entry. However, this does not go smoothly, because Michael is recognized and the military approaches. The group manages to escape. You arrive in Marseille. There Lincoln arranges a flight to the USA with the help of John Abruzzi's son Luca. Meanwhile, Michael learns that Sara and Mike are in Jacob's hands.

A&W and Van Gogh fail to intercept Michael at the airport. Michael and Lincoln then try to make a deal with Luca Abruzzi because Lincoln owes him money. Abruzzi does not agree and intends to kill them. Sheba and C-Note free them from their clutches. Meanwhile, Whip is sent to Lake Michigan to fish a blood-filled parcel out of the water. He then meets T-Bag and learns that this is his father.

Michael, Sheba and Lincoln trick A&W and Van Gogh and get to Jacob. After pursuing him, they search his car and come across a painted picture. They suspect that this is from Mike, but fall into a trap. So they pay a visit to the location hidden in the picture, where they are expecting A&W and Van Gogh. Lincoln waits in the car while Michael enters the house. A&W wants to kill Michael and his son, but is stopped by Van Gogh, who leaves the project and is seriously wounded by A&W. Sara is able to break free, Mike is kidnapped and manipulated by Jacob. Michael and Sara flee the house and come across Lincoln, seriously injured by Abruzzi's people.

Lincoln discharges himself from the hospital and sees that Abruzzi is arrested. He later meets with Michael, Sara, T-Bag, and Whip to plan Michael's long and sophisticated plan to convict Poseidon. T-Bag and Whip drive to Blue Hawaii, while Michael gets access to Jacob's control center through his years of tattoos after he was lured away. He secures several pieces of evidence pointing the guilt for the death of an FBI agent on Jacob and thus exonerating him. Jacob would then no longer have any leverage against Michael. Sara and Lincoln free Mike at the same time. T-Bag and Whip drive with Michael to a meeting point agreed with Jacob at the port. In the comparison, both parties want to convict the other, while A&W Jacob and T-Bag and Whip Michael stand by the side. When Whip tries to disarm A&W in an unplanned manner, the latter is shot, whereupon T-Bag kills A&W. Meanwhile, Michael lures Jacob into a trap, which threatens to go wrong. The CIA arrives in time to save Michael from Jacob and the FBI and secures the evidence.

During an interrogation, Michael is exonerated and declared free. Jacob is sent to Fox River Prison. T-Bag turns out to be his cell partner.

background

Emergence

The genesis of Prison Break began as an idea (a man intentionally puts himself in prison to save his brother from the death penalty and to break free with him), which was suggested to screenwriter Paul T. Scheuring by producer Dawn Parouse , there she wanted to produce an action-oriented television series. Although Scheuring was convinced of the idea, he was initially not very keen on the project. He feared that no broadcaster would realize a project of this kind and that the material would be difficult to translate into a television series. He later got the idea to include a conspiracy as a subplot. Scheuring then wrote the plot outline and created the characters. In 2003 he presented the project to the US network Fox, which initially did not believe that the series would be a success. Scheuring was also unable to convince other TV networks of his concept. The series was later considered as a ten-part miniseries supposedly produced by Steven Spielberg or Bruce Willis . However, this idea was never implemented. After the huge successes of shows such as Lost and 24 , Fox changed his mind and began producing Prison Break in 2004 .

Theme song

The original title melody of the series Prison Break Theme was composed by the native German-Iranian Ramin Djawadi , who received an Emmy nomination for it . The Belgian singer Kaye Styles sang the rap song Prison Break Anthem at the request of the US television channel Fox , which also served as the theme song for the broadcast of the series on the Belgian television channel KanaalTwee . It was released as a single and as a music video . The song Pas le temps , rapped by rapper Faf Larage from Marseille , serves as the theme song , which was also released as a single and music video, especially for broadcast on the French television channel M6 . The Japanese singer Namie Amuro sang the theme song Top Secret for the Japanese broadcast. RTL also commissioned a theme song. The song called I believe in you - Prison Break Anthem is sung by German rapper Azad and Adel Tawil , the lead singer of the group Ich + Ich . The song can be heard in the trailer and a music video was also made for it. On August 17, 2007, the title song took first place in the German single charts .

Remarks

  • The location of the scenes in the Fox River State Penitentiary was the Joliet Correctional Center , a disused prison in Chicago, in which the well-known American serial killer John Wayne Gacy was briefly imprisoned.
  • Before his death in 1994, the same serial killer, John Wayne Gacy, was imprisoned in the cell in which Lincoln was detained before he was transferred to the bunker.
  • In the second episode of the third season you can hear the theme song of the German season at the food bar in Sona prison.
  • For the fourth season, Los Angeles was used as a filming location for the first time.
  • A spin-off of the series entitled Prison Break: The Gretchen Morgan Files was planned.
  • The presentation of Sona is similar to the Palmasola prison in Bolivia .
  • The feature film “The Final Break” (identical to the last two episodes 23 and 24 in the USA) was integrated into the series by RTL in chronological order, so that the original episodes 22-24 of the fourth season are not identical to the German TV version. The epilogue "Four Years Later", in the USA at the end of episode 22, was shown on RTL at the very end of the series, in episode 24.
  • The tattoo on Michael Scofield's body was created by Tom Berg. It took five hours to paint the entire tattoo on his torso and two hours to remove.
  • In the series Breakout Kings , Theodore Bagwell, played by Robert Knepper , appears again in the third episode of the first season. He breaks out of a prison again.
  • The second season is sometimes compared to the 1963 film A total, totally crazy world .
