M6 , also known as Métropole Télévision , is a French commercial broadcaster, 48.56% of which is owned by RTL Group and 45.98% of which is listed on the stock exchange. Since the analogue shutdown on November 29, 2011, the station is no longer in SECAM throughout France , but only digitally in the Fransat package via AB 3, 5 ° West Atlantic Bird 3 and digitally in the CanalSat package on Astra 19.2 East, as also digital terrestrial, distributed. A digital broadcast signal for French-speaking Switzerland is also sent via the Eurobird 9A satellite . M6 is the second largest private broadcaster in France after TF1 .

In addition to M6, RTL Group also operates other television channels in France such as RTL9 , W9 , Paris Première , Téva , Série Club , Fun TV , M6 Music Hits , M6 Music Rock , M6 Music Black and M6 Boutique .

history

M6 started on March 1, 1987 and took the free capacity of the recently discontinued TV6. In 2001, M6 became the first French TV station to broadcast a reality show with Loft Story . TF1 later acquired the rights to the series through a cooperation with Endemol , but the very successful production was never included in TF1's program.
