Maisons du Monde is a French trading company for furniture and home furnishings. The company is based in Vertou .

history

The company was founded in 1996 by designer and entrepreneur Xavier Marie and the first branches were opened in Bordeaux , Lyon , Quimper and Vichy . Initially, the focus was on furniture that took up design elements from different parts of the world. This approach has been further developed and now entire theme collections are offered. In the following years the company expanded with shops in France. From 2003 the company began to operate internationally. This year the first store was opened in Spain, 2004 in Belgium, 2007 in Italy, 2010 in Luxembourg, 2013 in Germany, 2014 in Switzerland and 2018 in the United Kingdom and the United States. At the end of 2018 there were over 336 branches in nine countries worldwide. In 2018, the American furniture chain Modani was taken over.

The products have also been offered and sold online since 2006. Textiles have been on offer since 2007, outdoor furniture since 2009 and furniture and furnishings for children's rooms since 2011. Since 2018 there have been special offers for business facilities.

A production facility was opened in China in 2006 and in Vietnam in 2013.

In 2005 the investment companies Equistone and Nixen joined the company. In 2008 Apax Partners , LBO France and Nixen joined the company. In 2013, Bain Capital took over the company. The company went public in May 2016 and Bain reduced its shares in May 2017. At the beginning of 2019, no shareholder had more than 6% of the shares, around 75% are in free float.

In 2015 the Maisons du Monde Foundation was founded with the aim of protecting forests and conserving biodiversity.
