Life

Paul Westerberg was one of the founding formation of the Replacements , which quickly made a name for themselves in the music scene in the Twin Citys ( Minneapolis , St. Paul ). As a singer, guitarist and main songwriter, Westerberg played a large part in this success. However, this success was not reflected in the sales of their albums. The last album of the Replacements, All Shook Down , was recorded in 1990 by Westerberg with studio musicians; but he was persuaded to release this album as a replacement album. In 1991 the band finally broke up and Westerberg started his solo career.

His first two songs ( Dyslexic Heart , Waiting for Somebody ) appeared on the soundtrack he put together for the film Singles - Lonely together , followed a little later by his first complete solo album, 14 songs , which aroused mixed reactions from music critics. The next album was not a commercial success either and Westerberg switched from Reprise Records to Capitol Records . During this time of change his first album was released under the name Grandpaboy on an independent label.

In 1999 Suicaine Gratifaction was released , his first album for Capitol; however, at this time restructuring measures were in progress at this label, so little promotion was carried out for his album and because of the lack of commercial success, Westerberg was released from his contract. He then disappeared from the music scene by 2002.

In 2002 he announced his stereo / mono project, originally a double album with one record in mono and one in stereo. He decided to release the mono-record under the name Grandpaboy and to follow it on a tour. This was followed by further publications on Vagrant Records and a documentary about him under the title Come Feel Me Tremble . In 2005 a best of record was released; In preparation for a best-of record for the Replacements, there was also a partial reunion of his previous band. With Tommy Stinson , Chris Mars and studio musician Josh Freese , he recorded two new songs as replacements.

In 2015 Rolling Stone listed Westerberg as 92 of the 100 best songwriters of all time .
