Rafael Azcona
Rafael Azcona (born October 24, 1926 in Logroño , La Rioja , † March 24, 2008 in Madrid ) was a Spanish screenwriter .
Life
Azcona was one of the most important screenwriters in Spanish cinema with nearly 100 screenplays filmed. In the course of his career, which he began as a writer, he worked with a large number of renowned directors such as Marco Ferreri , Carlos Saura and Fernando Trueba and was awarded various Spanish film awards; He received the CEC Award five times and the Goya six times (including an award for his life's work). Internationally, he was hardly considered at award ceremonies, although the film Belle Epoque he wrote won the 1992 Oscar for best foreign language film. In the 1970s he wrote the screenplay for two westerns starring Bud Spencer .
As an opponent of the oppression of the population by the dictatorship of Franco , which he repeatedly discussed in his books, he often came under the crosshairs of Spanish censorship .
