The Ernst-Abbe-Gymnasium Jena (short: EAG ) is a state school in Jena in the Winzerla district . The grammar school was officially founded on September 2, 1991 and initially had 550 students and 45 teachers. The school was planned as a polytechnic high school (POS) as early as the GDR era , but the project was not implemented until later. The school complex cost a total of about ten million DM . Due to the specialization in the natural sciences , Ernst Abbe was chosen as the namesake.

In addition to the natural science subjects, the foreign languages English , French and Latin are offered. The grammar school has 35 classrooms, including 9 subject rooms for biology , chemistry , physics and two computer rooms , a school biotope , a library with around 3,800 books and a sports hall .

By 1994 the number of students rose to around 700 and the number of teachers to 47. Today there are 44 teachers.

The school building on Ammerbacher Straße was rebuilt and modernized by June 2016.
