Sergio Cabrera (born April 20, 1950 in Medellín , Colombia ) is a Colombian film director and screenwriter .

life and work

Sergio Cabrera grew up in Medellín as the son of Spanish immigrants. His father was an actor and his mother a theater director. At the age of ten, the family moved to China and he completed his schooling there. He began to study philosophy in Beijing , but returned to Colombia in 1968. From 1969 to 1973 he was a member of the Colombian guerrilla movement Ejército Popular de Liberación . From 1975 he studied film studies at the London Film School before returning to Colombia in 1977 as a film director.

As a director and producer, he was responsible for more than 500 commercial commercials. He has also worked as a screenwriter and director on more than 30 short films and five feature films. He became internationally known in 1993 for his film The Strategy of the Snail . Since 1992 he has also worked as a director for Spanish and Colombian television series.
