María Botto Rota (born February 10, 1974 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine actress who lives in Spain .

Life

María Botto was born in 1974 as the daughter of the actor couple Cristina Rota and Diego Botto . In 1975 her younger brother Juan Diego Botto was born. Botto's father Diego disappeared in March 1977 during the Dirty War in Argentina. The mother then emigrated to Spain with her two children and settled in Madrid . There was Al Levi only born a half-sister of Maria and Juan.

Career

María Botto's brother was already active as an actor at the age of seven. María and her younger sister Nur Al Levi took on minor roles alongside their older brother in Paco Lucio's 1985 film Teo el pelirrojo . By the end of the 1980s, María had taken on three other supporting roles in films, in which Juan Diego Botto played one of the larger roles. This was followed by a break and she did not start making films again until 1995. In 1999 she starred alongside Aitana Sánchez-Gijón and Daniel Giménez Cacho in Vicente Aranda's film Celo . For her portrayal, she was nominated for a Goya as best young actress the following year . In 2003 she stood in front of the camera for the director David Trueba for his film adaptation of the novel Soldiers of Salamis . The work received several Goya nominations. In addition to working on cinema productions, Botto stands up for television films and series in front of the camera and participates in international productions. In 2009 she starred alongside Nia Vardalos and Richard Dreyfuss in the Spanish-American-Greek joint production My Big Fat Greek Summer . In the same year, Botto played together with Pilar Bardem and María Barranco in the comedy La Vida Empieza Hoy directed by Laura Mañá .
