Laura Mañá

Laura Mañá (born January 12, 1968 in Barcelona , Spain ) is a Spanish actress , director and screenwriter .

Life

Laura Mañá studied theater studies and tourism . After completing her studies, she started her acting career in 1990 with the television series Vindrem a sopar . She had her first feature film role in 1991 in Deadly Deception . In 1997 she made her directorial debut with the short film Paraules . Her film Sex Out of Compassion was shown at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival . The comedy film is about a woman who offers sex as a charity campaign and attracted international attention. The film won numerous awards at film festivals, including the audience award and the main prize at the Guadalajara International Film Festival and the Málaga Spanish Film Festival. The psychological thriller Killing Words (2003) won two awards on Fantasporto and was nominated for best film.

In 2006, together with a number of other women film directors, she founded the organization CIMA (Asociación de Mujeres Cineastas y de Medios Audiovisuales), which takes care of the interests of Spanish women filmmakers.

In 2011 and 2012 she shot biographies about the Spanish politician Clara Campoamor and the Spanish feminist Concepción Arenal .

In addition to her work as a film director, she also made several commercials, including for Milupa , Danet , Danacol and Activia .
