Activia is a probiotic dairy brand owned by the French group Danone .

properties

Activia is marketed as a health-promoting product ( functional food ) that is supposed to stimulate digestion . Activia products contain bacteria of the strain Bifidobacterium animalis DN 173 010. Danone claims that the bacteria are supposed to eliminate indigestion and irregularities in the digestion. Actual functionality of this product is not considered proven.

In 2010, Danone withdrew its filings from the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) to confirm Activia's supposed health benefits. In France and Great Britain, the group also refrained from promoting the alleged digestive effects in commercials.
