Aitana Sánchez-Gijón (born November 5, 1968 in Rome , Italy ) is a Spanish-Italian actress .

Aitana Sánchez-Gijón is best known in Spain for her comedies, whereas she impressed internationally with her dramatic films. In 1995, for example, she played the pregnant and abandoned daughter of a winegrower in Alfonso Arau's film drama Dem Himmel so nah , who met a representative and finally fell in love with him. In addition, she was also cast in films by Manuel Gómez Pereira or Bigas Luna and was thus able to earn international recognition. In 1999 she received the “Silver Shell” at the Festival Internacional de Cine de Donostia-San Sebastián for her performance in Lunas Volavérunt . In the same year she was also appointed President of the Spanish Film Academy.
