David Trueba Rodríguez (born September 10, 1969 in Madrid ) is a Spanish writer, journalist, screenwriter, actor and director.

Life

David Trueba is a brother of the film director, screenwriter and film producer Fernando Trueba .

He studied journalism at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and took a scriptwriting course at the American Film Institute in 1992 . Even before this trip he worked as a songwriter, journalist for the newspapers El País and El Mundo and scriptwriter for the television programs Sopa de gansos and Querido Rafael .

In 1996, after several scripts, he took over directing the film La buena vida for the first time .

In 2004, the documentary Balseros , for which Trueba co-wrote the script and co-produced the film, was nominated for an Oscar . Soldados de Salamina had been submitted by Spain as a candidate for the best foreign language film, but received no nomination. In the same year he became Vice President of the Academia de Cine Española which he held until 2007.

In 2008 he was honored with the Premio de la Crítica for his novel Saber perder .

Since 1995 Trueba has been nominated for the Goya several times in various categories . In 2014 he received the Goya for best director and for best screenplay for his film Vivir es fácil con los ojos cerrados , which was also awarded for best film.
