Juan Diego Botto Rota (born August 29, 1975 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) is a Spanish film actor .

Life

Juan Diego Bottos hardly met his father, the actor Diego Botto , as he disappeared in March 1977 during the Dirty War in Argentina when Botto was two years old. The father's whereabouts are still unclear. With his mother Cristina Rota and his older sister María Botto , who also works as an actress today, Botto moved to Madrid (Spain), where he has lived since then. His younger sister Nur Al Levi was also born in Madrid .

Juan Diego Botto was already in front of the camera in 1982, at the age of seven; his film debut was the Spanish comedy Martes y trece, ni te cases ni te embarques . Although only present in a minor supporting role, the historical film 1492 - The Conquest of Paradise was his breakthrough in 1992, in which he played Diego Columbus , the film's son Gérard Depardieu . In the television series Zorro , which was produced between 1990 and 1993, Botto could be seen in 87 episodes. In Sobreviviré , a drama from 1999, Botto played a homosexual who nevertheless falls in love with a woman.

Today Botto lives in Madrid with his wife, reporter Olga Rodríguez . He is also politically active, spoke out against the Iraq war in 2003 , and founded an organization that campaigns for the rights of people whose relatives disappeared or were murdered in the Dirty War in Argentina. He represents the political left .
