Franziska apparently finds it difficult to look forward to her upcoming wedding with Holger. With the wedding dress on the seat on the way, she rams Elke's car and tells him her story.
Linda lies hitchhiking through Spain - sometimes with the fertilizer agent Werner as a deaf and mute, sometimes with Bodo as terminally ill. Until she ends the procession in the arms of Franziska's former friend Klaus, who tries to win Franziska back until the day of her wedding.
Bodo and Lucy spend a family vacation in Spain with their children Angelina, Philip and Carla. They too get to the procession at the end, but Bodo and his hitchhiker Linda do not meet again.

Herbert's long-term affair with Jessica ends when his teenage lover cuts her wrists at his home shortly before his daughter Franziska's wedding. He drops her off at a clinic to quickly clean the apartment with the help of his eldest daughter Charlotte so that his wife Unna does not find out. But she has known about it for a long time.
Shortly after the daughter's wedding, Unna meets her old love David again in Spain. But he can't remember anything since his stroke until they both put the pieces of the puzzle back together from their common past.

Reviews
While many reviews warn of dramaturgical weaknesses, the cast is consistently praised.
"An outstanding ensemble of actors and a series of dense, emotionally and intellectually deeply touching moments comfort you over the weak points as well as the endeavored framework."
"Fascinating relationship rhapsody full of profound dialogues and exciting characters."
"From artistically interwoven individual stories, Doris Dörrie conjures up an imaginative, visually gorgeous and stylishly elegant portrait on the canvas, which holds the mirror up to its audience both ironically and lovingly."
“Love and death - sometimes funny, sometimes deeply sad. Doris Dörrie plays the keyboard of feelings discreetly, but insistently up and down. "
"The great actors suffered a lot - that's why the thumb just crossed ..."
"If a film divides cinema critics like that, that's a good sign."
“Three generations of actors meet in front of Dörrie's camera: the stars of auteur films, those of the eighties and those of the nineties. Mostly it is the old who buy the nerves from the young. "
