Dirk Jasper

Dirk Jasper (born May 15, 1947 ; † September 6, 2011 ) was a German publicist , non-fiction author on the subject of film and the Internet, and a multimedia producer.

Active online since 1994, he was one of the pioneers in the areas of online publication and online journalism in Germany. He became known nationwide primarily for his numerous guides on everything to do with the Internet and his Dirk Jasper FilmLexikon .

Life

Education and professional activities

Dirk Jasper, born in 1947, completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at EMI Electrola and studied business administration with a focus on marketing and IT at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences . After completing his training, Jasper worked in various professional areas, such as a contact at an advertising agency , editor-in-chief of specialist magazines , mail order booksellers , teacher at a private business school , lecturer, trainer for digital equipment and headed a computer training center.

Since 1994 Dirk Jasper has worked as a freelance journalist and multimedia producer. In addition, he held teaching assignments nationwide on the topics of Internet, multimedia, marketing and online PR , including at the Westphalian Wilhelms University , the German Employee Academy , the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Koblenz and Simmern and at the Baden-Baden Film Academy. Württemberg and at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) . He was also a long-time internet consultant for the German Book Trade Association , for whose regional associations he also designed seminars on the subject of new media .

Dirk Jasper was married and had one daughter. He lived and worked in Argenthal .

The Dirk Jasper FilmLexikon and other online projects

Jasper's most famous projects include the Dirk Jasper FilmLexikon (DJFL) . It developed from the Jasper Video Yearbook 1991/92 , which was published in 1991 by Heyne Verlag and shortly thereafter as a diskette version by Rossipaul Verlag . 1994 followed in Rossipaul publishing a revised edition as interactive film lexicon six Multimedia - CD-ROMs . In the same year it went online for the first time as part of the German Film Forum in Compuserve , where it could be reached until 1997 under “Go Jasper”. In 1996 the Dirk Jasper FilmLexikon was published in the BTXplus of Deutsche Telekom and in 1997 in GermanyNet on the freely accessible Internet , where it has been available under the independent domain www.djfl.de since 1998 . Jasper aimed to present a lexical presentation of all the feature films that were shown in German theaters . However, this project could not be implemented - mainly for financial reasons - and so the DJFL has not been updated daily since spring 2007, but only updated sporadically. According to Jasper, however, it contains almost all of the feature films that were released between mid-1994 and around spring 2007. One of the best-known authors is Ernst Corinth , who has written hundreds of film reviews for the DJFL . Parallel to the online film lexicon, Jasper's authors also worked out a film star lexicon between 1994 and 2006 . Both dictionaries contain numerous interviews with international actors and filmmakers.

In addition to the DJFL , Dirk Jasper is also the founder, publisher and editor-in-chief of the online family portal Familie-im-Web.de, which has existed since 1994, and of the regional magazine Mehr-Hunsrück.de, which was launched in 2006 as an “independent online newspaper ” .

Jasper published his online publications DJFL and Familie-im-Web.de through his Argenthal-based publishing house Kontor für Mediendienste GmbH and the regional magazine Mehr-Hunsrück.de through the GRM Gesellschaft für Regionale Medien UG, which operates under the same address.

Parallel to his early online activities, Dirk Jasper wrote several books on the subject of " Internet " and " World Wide Web ". Starting with Online - The Compendium. Introduction, Arbeitsbuch, Nachschlagewerk (1995), Online-Ratgeber (1996) and The current Econ-Online-Lexikon (1996) he presented the functionality and possible uses of these completely new offers to the general public at the time. He also dealt with the leading providers of online access at the time - AOL , Compuserve and T-Online - in his own books. Jasper wrote several guides on Internet surfing and research, as well as business models for the online world. Dirk Jasper also worked as a columnist for specialist magazines such as Computer Bild , Buchhändler heute and Computer Zeitung . He has also published articles in the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger and the Kölnische Rundschau , in the Lübecker Nachrichten and in the Neue Rhein Zeitung, as well as in magazines including Bunte , Chip , Buchreport and BuchMarkt .

Honorary positions and memberships

Dirk Jasper has volunteered in various professional organizations. In 1997 he was one of the founding members of the voluntary self-regulation multimedia service provider (FSM) and was a member of its complaints committee from 1997 to 2002. Since 1997 Jasper has also been President of the Federal Association of Information Providers Online (BVIO). He was also a member of the examination committees of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) Cologne (1984 to 1989) and, since 1999, of the Koblenz Chamber of Commerce . He was also a member of the German Union of Journalists (dju) .

In addition, he took on regional honorary positions. From 1998 to 2001 he headed the “Work, Economy, Social Working Group” in the Agenda 21 process in the Rhein-Hunsrück district . From 1996 to 2003 he was involved in the parent representatives of the Ausonius school center in Kirchberg and from 1999 to 2004 was a member of the school board committee of the Kirchberg community .

Awards

In the 2000 multimedia competition of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate , he made it to the final round. In 2003 he won the Edgar short story competition .
