Neumorschen is a district of the municipality of Morschen in the north Hessian Schwalm-Eder district .
geography
Neumorschen is located in the east of the district on the foothills of the Knüllgebirge on the west bank of the Fulda and its tributary Wichte . State road 3225 runs through the village .
Altmorschen lies on the opposite side of the river . The federal highway 83 and the Bebra-Baunatal-Guntershausen railway of the former Friedrich-Wilhelms-Nordbahn run along the Fulda .
history
The village was first mentioned in 1259 as Novo Morsne . It belonged to the Spangenberg office and had market rights very early on. Furthermore, the jurisdiction in Neumorschen was located in the Fulda valley, which is reflected in the lily scepter of the old municipal coat of arms. One church was mentioned in 1464. In the Middle Ages, jurisdiction lay with the Haydau Monastery .
During the time of the Napoleonic Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813) Neumorschen was the capital of the canton of Neumorschen and seat of the justice of the peace . After the restoration of the Electorate of Hesse in 1814, the village again belonged to the Spangenberg office. As a result of the Hessian administrative reform of 1821, Neumorschen then belonged to the Melsungen district .
In the 20th century and especially after the two world wars , general and livestock markets took place again and again.
Territorial reform
The municipality of Morschen was formed in the course of the regional reform in Hesse on January 1, 1974 by virtue of state law through the merger of the previously independent municipalities Altmorschen, Heina, Konnefeld and Neumorschen. The municipalities of Binsförth (April 1, 1972), Eubach (July 1, 1971) and Wichte (December 31, 1971) had already been incorporated into the Altmorschen municipality . Altenmorschen became the seat of the municipal administration and local districts were set up for all former municipalities . At the same time as the merger to form the Morchen community, it changed to the newly formed Schwalm-Eder district.

Attractions
- On the historically significant Marktstrasse there are mainly gabled half-timbered buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries, with the historic Ratskeller particularly prominent. An open gully runs along the road. In 2012 the pavilion in the middle of the street was restored.
- The fortified church Neumorschen stands on a late Romanesque choir tower and is surrounded by a fortified cemetery from the 15th century. The loopholes in the curtain wall still bear witness to this today. In 1730 a romantic organ with artful carvings was installed on the prospectus. A scallop shell adorns the south entrance and refers to the former Jacob's pilgrimage route. During the last building renovation, several windows were uncovered inside on a late medieval wall painting, on which, among other things, a man of sorrows is shown with an adoring donor.
- The Heckenmühle was first mentioned in 1618.
